1And when Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to him, and said, “I am the Almighty God; walk faithfully before Me, and live blamelessly. 2And I will make My covenant between Me and you, and will give you descendants beyond number.” 3And Abram fell facedown; and God said to him, 4“This is My covenant with you: You shall be a father of many nations. 5No longer shall your name be Abram (meaning: high father), but your name shall be Abraham (meaning: father of a multitude); for I have made you a father of many nations. 6And I will make you exceedingly fruitful, and I will make nations of you, and kings shall come from you. 7And I will establish My covenant as an everlasting covenant between Me and you and your progeny after you in generations to come, to be your God, and the God of your descendants. 8And I will give to you, and to your descendants, the land in which you are now a sojourner (stranger), all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.”

9And God further said to Abraham, “You must obey the terms of My covenant - you and your descendants after you - in generations to come. 10This is My covenant, which you shall keep, between Me and you and your descendants after you: Every male among you shall be circumcised. 11You shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; it shall be a sign of the covenant between Me and you. 12And when baby boys among you are eight days old, they shall be circumcised, every male child throughout your generations - any that are born in your family, or bought with money from a stranger, and not of your flesh and blood - 13Whether born in your house, or bought with your money, he must be circumcised: and My covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant. 14And any male child whose flesh of his foreskin is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he has broken My covenant.”

15And God said to Abraham, “As for Sarai, your wife, you shall not call her Sarai, but Sarah shall be her name. 16And I will bless her, and shall surely give you a son by her: Indeed, I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of people shall be among her descendants.” 17Then Abraham fell on his face, and laughed to himself, thinking, “Shall a child be born to a man that is a hundred years old? And shall Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear children?” 18And Abraham said to God, “O that Ishmael might live under Your blessing!” 19And God replied, “Sarah, your wife, shall indeed bear you a son; and you shall call his name Isaac; and I will establish My covenant with him as an everlasting covenant, and with his offspring after him. 20And as for Ishmael, I have heard you: I will bless him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly; twelve princes shall he beget, and I will make of him a great nation. 21But My covenant I will establish with Isaac, whom Sarah shall bear to you by this set time next year.” 22And He ceased talking with Abraham, and God went up from him.

23And on that day, Abraham took Ishmael, his son, and all those born in his house, and all that were bought with his money, every male among Abraham's household; and circumcised the flesh of their foreskin on the very same day, as God had told him. 24And Abraham was ninety-nine years old when he was circumcised. 25And Ishmael, his son, was thirteen years old when he was circumcised. 26On the very same day was Abraham and Ishmael, his son, circumcised. 27And all the men of his house, born in the house, and bought with money from foreigners, were circumcised with him.
