1And the LORD visited Sarah as He had said, and the LORD did for Sarah as He had said. 2For Sarah conceived, and bore Abraham a son in his old age, at the time God had promised them. 3And Abraham named their son, that Sarah bore to him, Isaac. 4And Abraham circumcised his son Isaac when he was eight days old, as God had commanded him. 5And Abraham was a hundred years old, when his son, Isaac, was born to him. 6And Sarah said, “God has brought me laughter, so that all that hear will also laugh with me.” 7And she said, “Who would have said to Abraham, that Sarah should nurse children? For I have born him a son in his old age.”

8And the child grew, and was weaned: and Abraham made a great feast on the day that Isaac was weaned. 9And Sarah saw Ishmael, the son of Hagar, the Egyptian, whom she had born to Abraham, mocking. 10Therefore she said to Abraham, “Throw this bondwoman and her son out; for the son of this bondwoman shall never share in the inheritance with my son, Isaac.” 11And this was very grievous to Abraham because of his son (Ishmael). 12And God said to Abraham, “Do not let it grieve you because of the lad, and your bondwoman; listen to all that Sarah has said to you; for it is through Isaac that your progeny shall be reckoned. 13And I will also make a nation of the son of the slave girl, because he is also your child.” 14And Abraham arose early in the morning, and took bread, and a skin (bottle) of water, and gave them to Hagar, putting it on her shoulder, and sent her away with the boy; and she left, and wandered in the wilderness of Beersheba. 15And when the water in the bottle was gone, she left the child under one of the shrubs. 16And she went, and sat down a good way apart, about a bowshot, from him; for she said, “I don’t want to watch the boy die.” And so, she sat apart from him, and lifted up her voice, and wept. 17And God heard the voice of the lad; and the Angel of God called to Hagar out of heaven, and said to her, “What is wrong, Hagar? Have no fear; for God has heard the voice of the lad where he is. 18Go to the lad, and comfort him; for I will make of him a great nation.” 19And God opened her eyes, so that she saw a well of water; and she went and filled the bottle with water, and gave the lad a drink. 20And God was with the lad; and he grew up, lived in the desert, and became an archer. 21And while he dwelt in the wilderness of Paran, his mother got a wife for him out of Egypt.

22And at that time, Abimelech and Phichol, the commander of his forces, said to Abraham, “God is with you in all that you do: 23Now swear to me here before God that you will not deal falsely with me, nor my descendants: but show to me the kindness that I have shown to you, and to the land in which you have been a stranger.” 24And Abraham said, “I will swear.” 25And Abraham complained to Abimelech because of a well of water, which Abimelech's servants had violently seized. 26And Abimelech said, “I do not know who has done this; nor did you tell me, nor had I heard of it, until today.” 27And Abraham took sheep and oxen, and gave them to Abimelech; and the two of them made a treaty. 28And Abraham set seven ewe lambs of the flock apart by themselves. 29And Abimelech asked Abraham, “What is the meaning of these seven ewe lambs which you have set off by themselves?” 30And he said, “Accept these seven ewe lambs from my hand as a witness, that I have dug this well.” 31Therefore that place was named “Beer-sheba” (well of seven); because they both swore an oath there. 32Thus they made a treaty at Beer-sheba: then Abimelech and Phichol, commander of his forces, returned to the land of the Philistines. 33And Abraham planted a tamarisk tree in Beer-sheba; and he called there upon the name of the LORD, the Eternal God. 34And Abraham stayed in the Philistines' land for a long time.
