1Some time later, God tested Abraham: He called to him, “Abraham!” and he replied, “Yes, I am here.” 2And God said, “Take your son, your only son, Isaac, whom you love, and go into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will show you.” 3And so Abraham arose early the next morning, saddled his donkey; and took two of his young servants, and Isaac his son, and they cut the wood for the burnt offering, and set out for the place where God had told him. 4Then on the third day Abraham looked up, and saw the place in the distance. 5And Abraham told his young servants, “Wait here with the donkey; I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and then return to you.” 6And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering, and laid it upon Isaac, his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife; and the two of them went on together. 7And Isaac said to Abraham, “My father”, and he said, “Yes, my son.” And he said, “The fire and the wood are here: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?” 8And Abraham said, “My son, God will provide the lamb for the burnt offering.” and so they both went on together. 9And when they reached the place which God had told him of, Abraham built an altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac, his son, and laid him on the altar on top of the wood. 10And Abraham stretched out his hand, and took the knife to slay his son. 11But the Angel of the LORD called out to him out of heaven, “Abraham, Abraham!” and he said, “Yes, here I am.” 12And He said, “Do not lay your hand upon the lad, nor do you anything to harm him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me.” 13And then Abraham looked up, and there, behind him, he saw a ram in a thicket, caught by his horns. Then Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering instead of his son. 14And Abraham called the name of that place “Jehovah-jireh” - “The LORD Will Provide, and to this day, it is said “On the mountain of the LORD it shall be provided.”

15And the Angel of the LORD called to Abraham out of heaven a second time, 16And said, “I have sworn by Myself, declares the LORD, that because you have done this, and have not withheld your son, your only son, 17That in blessing I will surely bless you; and I will multiply your descendants like the stars of the heaven, and like the sand on the sea shore; and your progeny shall possess the gate of their enemies; 18And in your offspring shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because you have obeyed Me.” 19Then Abraham returned to his young servants, and they all returned to Beersheba. And Abraham continued living at Beersheba.

20And after these events, Abraham heard that Milcah had also born children to his brother Nahor: 21Uz, his firstborn; Buz, his brother; Kemuel, the father of Aram; 22Chesed; Hazo; Pildash; Jidlaph;, and Bethuel. 23And Bethuel fathered Rebekah: Milcah bore these eight children to Nahor, Abraham's brother. 24And his concubine, whose name was Reumah, also bore to Nahor Tebah, Gaham, Tahash, and Maacah.
