1Then Abraham took another wife, whose name was Keturah. 2And she bore him Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah. 3And Jokshan fathered Sheba and Dedan. And the sons of Dedan were Asshurim, Letushim, and Leummim. 4And the sons of Midian were Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abida, and Eldaah. All these were the descendants of Keturah. 5Abraham left all that he had to Isaac. 6But while he yet lived, Abraham gave gifts to his sons of the concubines; and sent them to the land east, away from his son, Isaac.

7Abraham lived: a hundred seventy-five years. 8And died after a long and full life; and was gathered to his people. 9And his sons, Isaac and Ishmael, buried him in the cave of Machpelah, in the field of Ephron the son of Zohar the Hittite, near Mamre - 10The field which Abraham had purchased from the sons of Heth: there Abraham was buried with his wife, and Sarah. 11And after the death of Abraham, God blessed his son Isaac, who lived near the well Lahai-roi.

12This is the account of the descendants of Ishmael, Abraham's son that Hagar, Sarah's Egyptian handmaid, bore to Abraham. 13The names of the sons of Ishmael, in the order of their birth, were: Nebajoth; Kedar; Adbeel; Mibsam; 14Mishma; Dumah; Massa; 15Hadad; Tema; Jetur; Naphish; and Kedemah. 16These are the twelve sons of Ishmael, founders of 12 tribes, and the names of their settlements and camps - twelve princes according to their nations. 17Ishmael lived a hundred thirty-seven years before breathing his last; and was gathered to his people. 18 Ishmael’s descendants settled in the region from Havilah to Shur, east of Egypt, toward Ashur (Assyria); and they lived in open hostility toward their related tribes.

19And this is the account of the descendants of Isaac, Abraham's son that Sarah bore to Abraham: 20Isaac was forty years old when he married Rebekah, the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian of Paddan-aram, and sister of Laban, the Syrian. 21Isaac prayed to the LORD for his wife, because she was barren; and the LORD answered his prayer, and Rebekah conceived. 22And the babies jostled each other within her; and she said, “Why is this happening to me?” And so she inquired of the LORD. 23And the LORD said, “Two nations are in your womb, they and their progeny shall be rivals; and the one clan shall be stronger than the other; and that of the elder shall serve that of the younger.” 24And when her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twin boys in her womb. 25And the body of the first to emerge was very red at birth, with thick hair, like a fur coat; and they named him Esau. 26And then his brother came out, and his hand was grasping Esau's heel; and he was named Jacob. Isaac was sixty years old when they were borne to Rebekah. 27As the boys grew up, Esau became a skillful hunter, an outdoorsman; while Jacob was of quiet temperament; content to dwell in tents. 28And Isaac loved Esau, because he ate and enjoyed his venison; while Rebekah loved (favored) Jacob.

29And one day, as Jacob was boiling pottage, Esau came in from the field, and he was faint: 30And Esau said to Jacob, “Please give me some of that red pottage; for I am faint.” That is also why he is called Edom, which means “red.” 31But Jacob said, Trade me your birthright as firstborn right now.” 32And Esau said, “Look, I am about to die: and then what good will my birthright do me?” 33And Jacob said, “Swear to me this day;” and Esau swore to him: and sold his birthright to Jacob. 34Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentils; which he ate and drank, then got up, and went his way: and in this way, Esau showed little regard for his birthright.
