1And Abraham was now very old; and the LORD had blessed him in every way. 2And Abraham said to the eldest servant of his house, who was steward of all that he had, “Put, I pray you, your hand under my thigh: 3And I will make you swear by the LORD, the God of heaven and the earth, that you shall not take a wife for my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell: 4But you shall go to my country, to my relatives, and take a wife for my son Isaac.” 5And the servant said to him, “Suppose the woman is not be willing to follow me to this land: must I take your son back to the land from which you came?” 6And Abraham said, “Beware that you do not take my son there again. 7The LORD God of heaven, Who took me from my father's house, and from the land of my relatives, and Who spoke to me, and Who swore to me, saying, To your seed will I give this land’; He shall send His angel before you, and you shall take a wife for my son from there. 8And if the woman is not willing to follow you, then you shall be released from this my oath: but do not take my son back there.” 9And the servant put his hand under the thigh of Abraham, his master, and swore to him concerning that matter.

10Then the servant took ten of his master’s camels, and departed with all sorts of gifts from his master; and he set out, and went to Mesopotamia (Aram Naharaim), to the city of Nahor. 11And he made his camels kneel by a well of water outside the city at evening, the time that women go out to draw water. 12And he prayed, “O LORD God of my master Abraham, I pray You, grant me success today, and show loving kindness to my master Abraham. 13Behold, I stand here by this well of water; and the daughters of the men of the city are coming out to draw water. 14And let it be, that the damsel to whom I shall say, ‘Please let down your pitcher, that I may drink’; that she shall say, ‘Drink, and I will give you water for your camels also’; Let that be the same one that You have chosen for Your servant Isaac; and by that I shall know that You have indeed shown kindness to my master.”

15And before he had finished praying, Rebekah came out, who was the daughter of Bethuel, son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, Abraham's brother, with her pitcher upon her shoulder. 16And the damsel was very beautiful, a virgin, nor had any man known her; and she went down to the well, and filled her pitcher, and came back up. 17And the servant ran to meet her, and said, “Please let me drink a little water from your pitcher.” 18And she said, “Drink, my lord”: and she quickly lowered her pitcher into her hand, and gave him a drink. 19And after she had given him a drink, she said, “I will draw water for your camels also, until they have finished drinking.” 20And she quickly emptied her pitcher into the trough, and ran back to the well to draw enough water for all his camels.

21And the man held his peace, as he watched her closely, to learn whether the LORD had made his journey prosperous or not. 22And when the camels had finished drinking, the man took a gold earring of half a shekel weight, and two gold bracelets for her wrists of ten shekels weight; 23And he asked, “Whose daughter are you? And please tell me, is there room in your father's house for us to spend the night?” 24And she replied, “I am the daughter of Bethuel, son of Milcah that she bore to Nahor.” 25She added, “We have both straw and fodder enough, and room to spend the night.” 26And the man bowed his head, and worshipped the LORD. 27And he said, “Praise the LORD God of my master Abraham, Who has not forsaken nor denied my master of His mercy and His truth: the LORD has led me to the house of my master's brothers.” 28And the damsel ran, and told her mother's household all these things.

29And Rebekah had a brother named Laban; and Laban ran out to the man at the well. 30He had seen the ring and bracelets upon his sister's hands, and when he heard Rebekah, his sister, saying, “Thus spoke the man to me,” he rushed out to the man; who was standing with his camels at the well. 31And Laban said, “Come in, you blessed of the LORD; why stand outside? I have prepared the house, and a place for the camels.” 32And so the man came to the house; and unloaded his camels, and Laban gave the camels straw and fodder, and water to wash Abraham’s servant’s feet, and the feet of the men that were with him. 33And then food was set before him; but he said, “I will not eat, until I have told of my errand.” And Laban said, “Then tell us.”

34And he said, “I am Abraham's servant. 35And the LORD has blessed my master greatly: and he has become wealthy - He has given him flocks, herds, silver, gold, menservants, maidservants, camels, and donkeys. 36And Sarah, my master's wife, and when she was very old, gave birth to my master’s son; and he has given all that he has to him. 37And my master made me swear an oath, ‘You shall not take a wife for my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I dwell. 38But you shall go to my father's house, and to my relatives, and take a wife for my son there.’ 39And I said to my master, ‘What if the woman will not come back with me?’ 40And he said, ‘The LORD, before Whom I walk, will send His angel with you, and will make your journey a success; and you shall take a wife for my son of my relatives, of my father's house. 41You shall be released from this, my oath, if, when you come to my kindred; they do not give her to you – then you shall be clear from my oath.’ 42And I came today to the well, and prayed, ‘O LORD God of my master Abraham, if now You grant me success in my journey: 43Behold, I stand here by this well; and if, when the young woman comes out to draw water, and I say to her, “Please give me a little water of your pitcher to drink”; 44And she says to me, “Both you drink, and I will also draw for your camels”; let that same be the woman whom the LORD has chosen for my master's son.’ 45And before I had finished praying, behold, Rebekah came out with her pitcher on her shoulder; and she went down to the well, and drew water: and I said to her, ‘Please let me have a drink.’ 46And she quickly lowered her pitcher from her shoulder, and said, ‘Drink, and I will give your camels a drink also;’ so I drank, and she made the camels drink also. 47And I asked her, ‘Whose daughter are you?’ And she said, ‘The daughter of Bethuel, Nahor's son, whom Milcah bore to him;’ and then I put the ring in her nose, and the bracelets upon her wrists. 48And I bowed my head, and worshipped the LORD, and praised the LORD God of my master Abraham, Who had led me in the right way to take my master's brother's daughter to his son. 49And now, if you will deal kindly and truly with my master, tell me; and if not, tell me; so that I may know which way to turn - to the right, or to the left.”

50Then Laban and Bethuel answered and said, “This is from the LORD: we cannot speak to you one way or another. 51Look, Rebekah is here before you, take her, and go, and let her be your master's son's wife, as the LORD has directed.” 52And when Abraham's servant heard their words, he worshipped the LORD, bowing himself to the earth. 53And the servant brought out jewels of silver and gold, and articles of clothing, and gave them to Rebekah. He also gave costly gifts to her brother and to her mother. 54And they, and the men that were with him, ate and drank, and he stayed there all night; and they rose in the morning, and he said, “Send me away to my master.” 55And her brother and her mother said, “Let the damsel remain with us a few days, at the least ten; after that she shall go.” 56And he said to them, Do not detain me, seeing the LORD has granted me success; send me away that I may go to my master.” 57And they said, “We will call the young lady, and ask her.” 58And they called Rebekah, and asked her, “Will you go with this man?” And she said, “I will go.” 59And so they sent away their sister, Rebekah, her nurse, and Abraham's servant, and his men. 60And they blessed Rebekah, and said to her, “You are our sister, be the mother of thousands of millions, and let your progeny possess the cities of those who hate them.” 61And Rebekah and her damsels arose, and they rode upon the camels, and followed the man: and the servant took Rebekah, and went his way.

62And meanwhile, Isaac had come from the way of the well Beer Lahai-roi; for he was living in the Negev. 63And Isaac went out to meditate in the field at the evening; and he looked up, and saw camels approaching. 64And Rebekah looked up, and when she saw Isaac, she alighted from her camel. 65And she asked the servant, “Who is that man that is walking through the field to meet us?” And the servant said, “It is my master.” Therefore, she covered herself with a veil. 66And the servant told Isaac all that he had done. 67And Isaac brought her into the tent of his mother, Sarah; and Rebekah became his wife; and he loved her: and Isaac was comforted after his mother's death.
