1Meanwhile, Joseph was taken down to Egypt; and Potiphar, an Egyptian officer of Pharaoh, and captain of the guard, bought him from the Ishmaelites, who had taken him down there. 2And the LORD was with Joseph, so that he prospered; and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master. 3And his master saw that the LORD was with him, and that the LORD caused everything he did to prosper. 4And Joseph found favor with him, and he became his servant; and he put him in charge of his house, and entrusted him with all that he had. 5And from the time that he put him in charge of his house, and all that he had, the LORD blessed Potiphar’s house for Joseph's sake; and the blessing of the LORD was upon all that he had - in the house, and in the field. 6And so Potiphar left all that he had in Joseph's hand; and became oblivious to everything, except the food he ate. And Joseph was handsome, and well-built.

7And after a while, Potiphar’s wife took notice of Joseph; and she said, “Come to bed with me.” 8But he refused, and said to her, “Look, my master trusts me with everything in his entire house. 9There is none greater in this house than I; nor has he withheld anything from me, except you, because you are his wife. How then, can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?” 10And as she continued, day by day, to try to seduce Joseph, he did not he listen to her. 11And one day, Joseph went into the house to attend to some work; and there was no one else in the house. 12And she came and grabbed him by his garment, saying, “Lie with me!” and he fled, leaving his garment in her hand, and ran from the house. 13And when she saw that he had left his garment in her hand, and had fled, 14She called to her household servants, and said, “See, he (Potiphar) has brought a Hebrew in to mock us; he came in unto me to lie with me, but I screamed; 15And when he heard me scream, he left his garment beside me, and ran out.”

16And she kept his garment by her, until Potiphar came home. 17And she told him her story: “The Hebrew servant you brought in to us came in to me to mock me: 18And as soon as I screamed, he left his garment with me, and fled.” 19And when his master heard the story of his wife, when she said, “This is what your servant did to me”; he was enraged. 20And Potiphar put Joseph into the prison, where the king's prisoners were confined. 21But the LORD was with Joseph, and showed him kindness, and gave him favor in the eyes of the prison warden. 22And the warden put Joseph in charge of all the prisoners incarcerated there; and over all that was done there. 23The prison warden left everything in his hand; because the LORD was with him, and whatever he did, the LORD made it to prosper.
