1And Adam knew (had relations with) Eve, his wife; and she conceived, and bore Cain, and she said, “With the help of the LORD, I have gotten (brought forth) a man.” 2And then later, she gave birth to his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, while Cain was a tiller of the soil. 3And in course of time, Cain brought some of the fruit of the ground as an offering unto the LORD. 4And Abel also brought an offering of the best of the firstborn of his flock. And the LORD looked with favor upon Abel and his offering: 5But upon Cain and his offering, He did not look with favor. And Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell. 6And the LORD asked Cain, “Why are you angry? And why do you look so dejected? 7If you do what is right, shall you not be accepted? But if you refuse to do what is right, then beware: sin is crouching at the door; and wants to control you. You must not give in to it, but resist it.” 8And Cain talked with his brother, Abel; and when they were out in the field, Cain attacked Abel, his brother, and killed him.

9And then the LORD asked Cain, “Where is Abel, your brother?” And he replied, “I do not know. Am I my brother's keeper?” 10And God said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother's blood cries unto Me from the ground. 11And now are you under a curse and banished from the land, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand. 12When you till the ground, it will no longer yield its crops for you; you shall be a fugitive and a vagabond on the earth.” 13And Cain replied, “My punishment is more than I can bear. 14You have banished me this day from the land; and from Your presence; and I shall be a wandering fugitive on the earth; and whoever finds me shall kill me.” 15But the LORD said to him, “No, whoever kills Cain will suffer vengeance seven times his punishment.” And the LORD set a mark upon Cain, so that anyone finding him should not kill him. 16And Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod, east of Eden.

17And Cain knew (had sexual relations with) his wife; and she conceived, and bore Enoch: and he (Cain) built a city, and named the city “Enoch”, after his son. 18And to Enoch was born Irad; and to Irad was born Mehujael; and Mehujael fathered Methushael; and Methushael fathered Lamech. 19And Lamech married two wives: one named Adah; and the other named Zillah. 20And Adah gave birth to Jabal: who was the first of those that live in tents, and have cattle. 21And his brother's name was Jubal: he was the first of those that play stringed instruments and flutes. 22And Zillah gave birth to Tubalcain, who became expert in forging tools out of bronze and iron. The sister of Tubalcain was Naamah. 23And Lamech said to his wives, Adah and Zillah, “Hear what I say; you wives of Lamech: I have killed a man for wounding me, and a young man for injuring me. 24If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold, I, Lamech, will be avenged seventy-sevenfold.”

25And Adam knew (made love to) his wife again; and she conceived and bore a son, and named him Seth. For she said “God has granted me another son in place of Abel, whom Cain killed.” 26And Seth also had a son; and he named him Enosh. At that time, men began to call upon the name of the LORD.
