Then sang Deborah and Barak, son of Abinoam, on that day:

“Praise the LORD for leaders that led, and the people who willingly offered themselves. 3Hear, you kings! Listen, you mighty rulers; I, even I, will sing to the LORD; I will sing praise to the LORD God of Israel.

LORD, when You went out of Seir, when You marched out of the land of Edom, the earth trembled, the heavens poured water from the clouds. 5The mountains quaked before the LORD; even distant Sinai from the presence of the LORD God of Israel.

In the days of Shamgar, son of Anath, in the days of Jael, travelers avoided the highways, and took the byways. 7The villagers in Israel would not fight, until I, Deborah, arose, arose as a mother in Israel. 8When Israel chose new gods; war came to the gates. Was there a shield or spear seen among forty thousand in Israel?

My heart is with the commanders of Israel, who offered themselves willingly for war among the people. Praise the LORD!

Speak of it, you who ride on white donkeys, you who sit on rich saddle blankets, and you who walk along the road. 11The voices of those who are gathered in the places of drawing water shall sing and rehearse the righteous acts of the LORD, the righteous acts toward the inhabitants of His villages in Israel; then shall the people of the LORD march down to the city gates.

Awake, awake, Deborah! Awake, awake, sing a song! Arise, Barak, and lead your captives away, you son of Abinoam. 13Down marched the survivors; the people of the LORD came down to me against the mighty. 14Out of Ephraim some of them came against Amalek; Benjamin followed among your people; out of Machir came commanders, and out of Zebulun they who handle the commander’s staff. 15And the princes of Issachar were with Deborah: Issachar, was with Barak: they rushed at his heels into the valley. But in the tribe of Reuben there was great indecision. 16Why did you sit at home among the sheepfolds, to hearing the bleating of the flocks? For the clans of Reuben there was much searching of the heart. 17Gilead stayed beyond the Jordan: and why did Dan remain by the ships? Asher remained on the sea shore, and in its coves. 18Zebulun and Naphtali were a people who risked their lives in the high places of the battlefield.

The kings came and fought; the kings of Canaan in Taanach by the waters of Megiddo; they took no plunder of silver. 20The stars fought from heaven; the stars in their courses fought against Sisera. 21The river of Kishon, that ancient river, swept them away. O my soul, you have trodden down strength. 22Then the horses hoofs thundered by their galloping - the galloping, galloping of their mighty steeds. 23Curse you Meroz, said the Angel of the LORD, curse you bitterly; because they did not come to the help the LORD, to help of the LORD against the mighty army. 24Blessed above women shall Jael, the wife of Heber, the Kenite be; blessed shall she be above women in the tent. 25He asked water, and she gave him milk; she brought forth butter in a lordly dish. 26She grasped the nail with her left hand; and with her right, the workmen's hammer; and with the hammer she struck Sisera, she crushed his head, when she had pierced and pierced through his temples. 27At her feet he fell, and lay at her feet: there he bowed, there he fell dead. 28The mother of Sisera looked out through a window, and cried through the lattice, “Why is his chariot so long in coming? What is delaying the wheels of his chariots?” 29Her wise ladies answered her, yea, she answered herself, 30Have they not sped? They must be dividing the spoil: to every man a damsel or two; to Sisera a spoil of dyed garments of needlework, of dyed garments embroidered on both sides, suitable for the necks of those who take the spoil. 31So may all Your enemies perish, O LORD! But let them who love Him be like the sun when it comes out in full strength.”

{End of the “song”}

And the land had rest forty years.
