Now as Obadiah went on his way,

Obadiah served as steward over Ahab’s household while remaining faithful to Yahweh in a court dominated by Ahab and Jezebel’s rebellion. During the drought, Ahab had sent him to search for water and pasture for the royal animals. Obadiah had already risked his life to hide and provide for one hundred prophets whom Jezebel sought to kill.

Elijah suddenly met him.

When Obadiah recognized him,

Obadiah knew Elijah as the prophet whose declaration had announced the drought and whose return could bring dangerous consequences. His recognition also reveals his concern for the servants of the Lord during a season when faithfulness carried real personal cost.
