The practice reflects an ancient belief that what breeding animals saw could affect their offspring. Yet Jacob later understood that God had seen Laban’s injustice and had caused the flocks to increase in his favor (Genesis 31:10–12). The branches reveal Jacob’s labor, but the blessing came from the Lord, who remained faithful to His promise at Bethel.
