Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Jesus stands at the center of the race of faith described in Hebrews 12:1. He is not merely an example among many faithful witnesses; He is the One in whom faith begins, finds its object, and reaches its intended goal. Psalm 121:1–2 similarly directs the weary heart to look to the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth, for help. 2Co 4:18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen but on what is unseen… the author and perfecter of our faith, Jesus established the way of faith by His incarnate obedience to the Father, and He brings His people safely to its completion. His saving work rests on His person as the eternal Son through whom all things were made (John 1:1–3) and on His finished sacrifice for sinners. The God who begins His work in believers will complete it, conforming them to Christ until the day of His return (Philippians 1:6). Heb 2:10 In bringing many sons to glory, it was fitting for God… who for the joy set before Him Jesus faced the suffering ahead with full knowledge of the joy that would follow: the accomplishment of redemption, the gathering of His redeemed people, His resurrection and exaltation, and the glory of the Father’s saving purpose. He looked beyond Golgotha to the victory secured through His obedience. Present suffering is therefore not the final reality for those who belong to Him; eternal glory awaits them (Romans 8:18). Isa 53:11 After the anguish of His soul, He will see the light of life… endured the cross, Crucifixion brought severe physical agony and was designed to shame and terrorize those condemned by Rome. Jesus willingly bore that death in obedience to the Father and in love for His people. Isaiah 53 had foretold the suffering Servant who would bear the sins of many. At the cross, the sinless Son took the judgment sinners deserved and secured peace with God. Php 2:8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself… scorning its shame, Jesus refused to be governed by the public disgrace attached to the cross. Though mocked, stripped, and treated as cursed, He did not turn aside from the Father’s will. The world’s verdict was overturned by God’s wisdom and power, for the cross became the means by which sin was defeated and salvation was obtained (1 Corinthians 1:27–31). Faithful believers likewise learn to seek God’s approval above human honor. Psa 69:19-20 You know my reproach, my shame and disgrace.… and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. The risen Christ ascended in triumph and received the place of supreme honor and authority promised in Psalm 110:1. His sitting indicates that His atoning work was completed once for all. From heaven He reigns over all things, intercedes for His people, and will return to establish His kingdom openly.
