Jesus arrived in the region of the Gerasenes after calming the storm on the Sea of Galilee. The crossing was no accident. Demonic oppression had stripped the man of the ordinary marks of human dignity, security, and fellowship. His nakedness and homelessness showed the extent of his misery and alienation. Jesus did not turn away from someone whom others could neither restrain nor restore.
