The term "disgustingly" is not directly found in the Bible; however, the concept of actions or behaviors that are considered abhorrent or detestable is prevalent throughout the Scriptures. In the biblical context, actions that are deemed disgusting are often those that violate God's commandments and moral order. These actions are typically associated with sin, idolatry, and moral corruption.

Old Testament Context

In the Old Testament, the Hebrew word "toebah" is often translated as "abomination" and is used to describe practices that are detestable to God. For example, in Leviticus 18:22, the practice of homosexuality is described as an abomination: "You must not lie with a man as with a woman; that is an abomination" . Similarly, idolatry is frequently labeled as an abomination. Deuteronomy 7:25 warns against the idols of the nations: "You must burn up the carved images of their gods. Do not covet the silver or gold that is on them, or take it for yourselves, lest you be ensnared by it, for it is detestable to the LORD your God" .

The prophets also speak against practices that are disgusting in the sight of God. In Ezekiel 16:50, the prophet condemns the sins of Sodom, stating, "They were haughty and committed abominations before Me; therefore I removed them, as you have seen" . This highlights the severity with which God views such actions.

New Testament Context

In the New Testament, the concept of actions that are disgusting or detestable continues, though the language shifts slightly. The Greek word "bdelugma" is used to describe abominations. In Revelation 21:8, a list of those who will face judgment includes "the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars" . These are considered detestable acts that separate individuals from the holiness of God.

Jesus Himself addresses the issue of hypocrisy and moral corruption, which can be seen as disgusting in the eyes of God. In Matthew 23:27-28, He rebukes the Pharisees: "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of dead men’s bones and every kind of impurity. In the same way, on the outside you appear to be righteous, but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness" .

Moral and Ethical Implications

From a biblical perspective, actions that are considered disgusting are those that defile the purity and holiness that God desires for His people. The Bible calls believers to live lives that are set apart, avoiding practices that are detestable to God. In 1 Peter 1:15-16, Christians are exhorted to holiness: "But just as He who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do, for it is written: 'Be holy, because I am holy'" .

The call to holiness is a call to reject what is morally and spiritually disgusting, embracing instead the righteousness that comes through faith in Jesus Christ. This involves a transformation of the heart and mind, aligning one's life with the teachings and example of Christ.
