The term "Gainer" does not appear explicitly in the Bible; however, the concept of gaining, particularly in the context of spiritual and material wealth, is addressed throughout Scripture. The Bible provides guidance on the pursuit of gain, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing spiritual wealth over material possessions.

Spiritual Gain

The Bible frequently contrasts spiritual gain with worldly gain, urging believers to seek treasures in heaven rather than on earth. In Matthew 6:19-21 , Jesus teaches, "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." This passage highlights the eternal value of spiritual gain, encouraging believers to focus on their relationship with God and the pursuit of righteousness.

The Apostle Paul also addresses the concept of spiritual gain in Philippians 3:7-8 , where he writes, "But whatever was gain to me I count as loss for the sake of Christ. More than that, I count all things as loss compared to the surpassing excellence of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ." Paul emphasizes that true gain is found in knowing Christ and living according to His will, rather than in accumulating worldly achievements or possessions.

Material Gain

While the Bible does not condemn material wealth, it warns against the dangers of prioritizing it over spiritual matters. In 1 Timothy 6:9-10 , Paul cautions, "Those who want to be rich, however, fall into temptation and become ensnared by many foolish and harmful desires that plunge them into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. By craving it, some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows." This passage underscores the potential spiritual peril associated with the pursuit of material gain, urging believers to maintain a proper perspective on wealth.

Proverbs 11:28 further reinforces this idea: "He who trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous will thrive like a green leaf." The wisdom literature of the Bible consistently teaches that reliance on material wealth is ultimately futile, while righteousness and trust in God lead to true prosperity.

Eternal Perspective

The Bible encourages believers to adopt an eternal perspective on gain, recognizing that earthly possessions are temporary and that true fulfillment comes from a relationship with God. In Mark 8:36 , Jesus poses the rhetorical question, "What does it profit a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul?" This question challenges believers to consider the ultimate cost of prioritizing worldly gain over spiritual well-being.

In summary, while the Bible acknowledges the reality of both spiritual and material gain, it consistently emphasizes the superiority of spiritual wealth. Believers are encouraged to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, trusting that all necessary things will be added to them (Matthew 6:33).
