Jeiel is a name that appears multiple times in the Old Testament, associated with various individuals who played different roles in the history of Israel. The name Jeiel is understood to mean "God sweeps away" or "God gathers," reflecting a sense of divine action or purpose.

1. Jeiel the Reubenite: In 1 Chronicles 5:7, Jeiel is mentioned as a leader among the Reubenites, one of the tribes of Israel. This Jeiel is noted in the genealogical records, highlighting the importance of lineage and tribal leadership in the history of Israel.

2. Jeiel, Father of Gibeon: In 1 Chronicles 8:29 and 9:35, Jeiel is identified as the "father of Gibeon," indicating his role as a patriarchal figure in the town of Gibeon. His wife is named Maacah, and he is listed among the descendants of Benjamin, underscoring the tribal affiliations that were significant in the organization of Israelite society.

3. Jeiel the Musician: In 1 Chronicles 15:18, Jeiel is mentioned as one of the musicians appointed by King David to play the lyre during the transportation of the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem. This Jeiel is part of the Levitical order, emphasizing the role of music and worship in the religious life of Israel. The passage states: "And with them were their relatives of the second rank: Zechariah, Jaaziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-edom, and Jeiel the gatekeepers."

4. Jeiel the Scribe: In 2 Chronicles 26:11, Jeiel is mentioned as a scribe in the service of King Uzziah of Judah. This role highlights the administrative and bureaucratic functions necessary for the governance of the kingdom, as well as the importance of record-keeping in maintaining the history and laws of the nation.

5. Jeiel the Levite: In 2 Chronicles 29:13, Jeiel is listed among the Levites who participated in the cleansing of the temple during the reign of King Hezekiah. This event was part of a larger religious reform aimed at restoring proper worship practices in Judah. The text reads: "From the sons of Elizaphan: Shimri and Jeiel; from the sons of Asaph: Zechariah and Mattaniah."

6. Jeiel the Overseer: In 2 Chronicles 35:9, Jeiel is mentioned as one of the overseers who contributed to the Passover offerings during the reign of King Josiah. This role underscores the communal and sacrificial aspects of Israelite worship, as well as the organizational efforts required to conduct such significant religious observances.

The various individuals named Jeiel in the Bible reflect the diverse roles and responsibilities within the community of Israel, from leadership and administration to worship and religious reform.
