The final blow came during the reign of Hoshea, the last king of Israel, when Shalmaneser V, followed by Sargon II, completed the conquest and deportation of the northern tribes, including Gad, in 722 B.C. (2 Kings 17:6). "In the ninth year of Hoshea, the king of Assyria captured Samaria and deported the Israelites to Assyria. He settled them in Halah, in Gozan on the Habor River, and in the towns of the Medes."

Legacy

The captivity of the tribe of Gad, along with the other northern tribes, marked a significant moment in Israel's history, as it led to the dispersion of the ten tribes, often referred to as the "Lost Tribes of Israel." Despite their physical displacement, the spiritual legacy of Gad and the other tribes continued to influence Jewish thought and eschatology, with prophecies of restoration and reunification found throughout the Scriptures.1 Chronicles 5:26
