Overview:
Rumah is a location mentioned in the Bible, specifically in the Old Testament. It is noted for its association with certain biblical figures and events. The exact identification of Rumah is a subject of scholarly discussion, but it holds significance in biblical history and genealogy.

Biblical References:
Rumah is mentioned in 2 Kings 23:36, where it is identified as the hometown of Pedaiah, the father of Zebudah, who was the mother of King Jehoiakim of Judah. The verse states: "Jehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eleven years. His mother’s name was Zebidah daughter of Pedaiah; she was from Rumah."

Historical and Geographical Context:
The precise location of Rumah is not definitively known, but it is traditionally associated with a site in the region of Galilee. Some scholars suggest it may be linked to the modern-day village of Ruma, located near Nazareth. This association is based on historical and geographical considerations, although definitive archaeological evidence is lacking.

Genealogical Significance:
Rumah's mention in the genealogy of King Jehoiakim highlights its importance in the lineage of the kings of Judah. Jehoiakim, a descendant of King David, played a significant role in the history of Judah during a tumultuous period marked by political upheaval and the eventual Babylonian exile.

Cultural and Theological Insights:
The mention of Rumah in the context of royal genealogy underscores the interconnectedness of various families and locations within the biblical narrative. It reflects the broader theme of God's providence and the unfolding of His plan through specific individuals and places. The genealogical records in the Bible serve to trace the lineage of key figures, emphasizing the fulfillment of divine promises through successive generations.

Conclusion:
While Rumah is not a prominent location in the biblical text, its mention provides valuable insight into the familial and historical context of the Judean monarchy. The reference to Rumah in the genealogy of Jehoiakim serves as a reminder of the intricate tapestry of relationships and events that shape the biblical narrative.

Rumah

(high), mentioned once only -- (2 Kings 23:36) It has been conjectured to be the same place as Arumah. (Judges 9:41) which was apparently near Shechem. It is more probable that it is identical with Dumah. (Joshua 15:52)

Easton's Bible Dictionary
Elevation, probably the same as Arumah (Judges 9:41; 2 Kings 23:36), near Shechem. Others identify it with Tell Rumeh, in Galilee, about 6 miles north of Nazareth.

RUMAH

roo'-ma (rumah; Codex Vaticanus Rhouma; Codex Alexandrinus Rhuma): To this place belonged Pedaiah whose daughter Zebudah (the Revised Version (British and American) "Zebidah") entered the harem of Josiah, king of Judah, and became the mother of Jehoiakim (2 Kings 23:36). Josephus (Ant., X, v, 2) calls the place Abouma, but this is an obvious clerical error for Arouma. This suggests a possible identification with Arumah (Judges 9:41), which lay not far from Shechem. Another possible identification is with the Rumah mentioned by Josephus (BJ, III, vii, 21) in Galilee (compare Neubauer, Geog. du Talmud, 203), which may be identical with the modern Khirbet Rumeh, about 3 miles North of Seffuriyeh. Some, however, would identify Rumah with Dumah of Joshua 15:52, where the substitution of "r" for "d" is supported by the Septuagint (Rheuma), possibly represented by the modern Domeh, about 13 miles Southeast of Beit Jibrin. This of course was in the territory of Judah, and no question of jus connubium is involved, such as might arise in the case of a Galilean site.
