The Levites, one of the twelve tribes of Israel, hold a significant place in biblical history as a model for service and dedication to God. Beyond their physical duties, the Levites played a crucial role in teaching and guiding the Israelites in the ways of the Lord. They were tasked with instructing the people in the Law and ensuring that God's commandments were understood and followed. This educational role is highlighted in 2 Chronicles 17:8-9 , where Jehoshaphat sent Levites throughout Judah to teach the Book of the Law of the LORD.

This call to holiness is emphasized in Leviticus 20:26 : "You are to be holy to Me because I, the LORD, am holy, and I have set you apart from the nations to be My own."

Unlike the other tribes, the Levites did not receive a territorial inheritance in the Promised Land. Instead, their inheritance was the Lord Himself, as stated in Deuteronomy 18:1-2 : "The Levitical priests—indeed the whole tribe of Levi—shall have no portion or inheritance with Israel. They shall eat the offerings made to the LORD by fire, for that is their inheritance. Although they have no inheritance among their brothers, the LORD is their inheritance, as He promised them." This unique provision underscores their complete reliance on God and the community's responsibility to support them through tithes and offerings.
