1And after six days, Jesus took with Him Peter and James and his brother John, and brought them up into a high mountain by themselves. 2And He was transfigured before them; and His face shined as the sun, and His garments became white as the light. 3Then behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah talking with Him. 4And Peter answered and said to Jesus, "Lord, it is good for us to be here. If You desire, let us make three tabernacles here: one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah." 5While he was speaking, a bright cloud suddenly overshadowed them; and behold, a voice out of the cloud said, "This is My Son, the Beloved, in Whom I delight. Listen to Him!" 6And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces in extreme terror. 7But Jesus came and touched them, and said, "Arise, and do not be terrified." 8And when they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus alone. 9Now as they were descending from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying, "Tell the vision to no one until the Son of man has risen from the dead." 10Then His disciples asked Him, saying, "Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?" 11And Jesus answered and said to them, "Elijah shall indeed come first and restore all things. 12But I tell you that Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him; but they did to him whatever they desired. In like manner also, the Son of man is about to suffer from them." 13Then the disciples understood that He was speaking to them about John the Baptist. 14And when they had come to the multitude, a man came to Him, kneeling down to Him, 15And saying, "Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is insane and suffers miserably; for he often falls into the fire, and often into the water. 16And I brought him to Your disciples, but they were not able to heal him." 17Then Jesus answered and said, "O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you in your unbelief? Bring him here to Me." 18And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it departed from him; and the boy was healed from that hour. 19Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, "Why were we not able to cast it out?" 20And Jesus said to them, "Because of your unbelief. For truly I say to you, if you have faith as a tiny mustard seed, you shall say to this mountain, 'Remove from here,' and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible to you. 21But this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting." 22And while they were dwelling in Galilee, Jesus said to them, "The Son of man is about to be betrayed into the hands of men, 23And they shall kill Him; but the third day He shall be raised up." And they were exceedingly sorrowful. 24Now after coming to Capernaum, those who received the tribute money came to Peter and said, "Does not your Master pay tribute?" 25And he said, "Yes." And when he came into the house, Jesus, anticipating his question, said, "What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth receive custom or tribute? From their own children, or from strangers?" 26Peter said to Him, "From strangers." Jesus said to him, "Then the children are indeed free. 27Nevertheless, so that we may not offend them, go to the sea and cast a hook, and take the first fish that comes up; and when you have opened its mouth, you shall find a coin. Take that, and give it to them for Me and you."
