Judgment on Israel’s Neighbors 1The words of Amos, who was among the sheepherders† from Tekoa—that which he saw concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah and in the days of Jeroboam son of Joash† king of Israel, two years† before the earthquake. 2And he said: “YHWH roars from Zion, and from Jerusalem He gives forth His voice. And the pastures of the shepherds withers and the head of Carmel mourn.” 3Thus says YHWH: “Over three transgressions of Damascus, even over four, I will not turn back—† over their threshing Gilead 4And I will send a fire into the house of Hazael, and it will devour the citadels of Ben-hadad. 5And I will break the bar of Damascus, and I will cut off the ruler† from the Valley of Aven† and the one holding a scepter from Beth-eden, and the people of Aram will be removed to Kir,” 6Thus says YHWH: “Over three transgressions of Gaza, even over four, I will not turn back— over their taking captive a whole captivity, 7And I will send a fire upon the wall of Gaza, and it will devour her citadels. 8And I will cut off the ruler from Ashdod, and the one holding the scepter from Ashkelon. And I will turn My hand upon Ekron, and the remnant of the Philistines will perish,” 9Thus says YHWH: “Over three transgressions of Tyre, even over four, I will not turn back— over their delivering up the whole captivity to Edom, and they did not remember the covenant of brotherhood! 10And I will send a fire upon the wall of Tyre, and it will devour her citadels.” 11Thus says YHWH: “Over three transgressions of Edom, even over four, I will not turn back— over his pursuing with the sword his brother, and he destroyed his compassion and tore perpetually with his anger, and his wrath he guarded forever! 12And I will send a fire on Teman, and it will devour the citadels of Bozrah!” 13Thus says YHWH: “Over three transgressions of the sons of Ammon, even over four, I will not turn back— over their ripping open the pregnant women of Gilead, so that they might enlarge their border! 14And I will kindle a fire upon the wall of Rabbah, and it will devour her citadels, with a shout in the day of battle, with a tempest in the day of the whirlwind! 15And their king will go into exile—† he and his princes together,” says YHWH.
