Job: Who Can Understand God’s Majesty?

1And Job answered and said:

2“How you have helped the one without power!

You have saved the arm with no strength!

3How you have advised one without wisdom,

and have made known insight in abundance!

4With whom have you declared these words?

And whose breath has come forth from you?

5The dead are writhing,

underneath the waters and those inhabiting them.

6Naked is Sheol before Him,

and there is no covering to Abaddon.

7He stretches out Zaphon over the void,

hanging the earth on nothing whatsoever.

8Binding the waters in His thick clouds,

and the clouds are not broken apart under them,

9He covers the face of the throne,

and spreads over it His cloud.

10He has circled a limit upon the face of the waters,

to be the boundary of light with darkness.

11The pillars of the heavens tremble

and are astonished at his rebuke.

12By His strength He stirred the Sea,

and by His understanding He shattered Rahab.

13By His breath the heavens were made clear;

His hand pierced the fleeing serpent.

14Behold, these are the edges of His ways,

and how faint of a word do we hear of Him!

And the thundering of His might,

who can understand?”

Footnotes:

6 Abaddon means Destruction.
9 Or of the full moon
12 Or stilled
13 Hebrew nachash; translated in most cases as snake
