Deuteronomy 9:25

"So I lay face downward in the LORD's presence those forty days and nights, because I knew that he was determined to destroy you.

Throughout the forty days and forty nights that I lay prostrate before the LORD when the LORD intended to destroy you,

After you had made the idol in the shape of a calf, the LORD said he was going to destroy you. So I lay face down in front of the LORD for 40 days and nights
