Good News Translation
The king will think that the Israelites are wandering around in the country and are closed in by the desert.

Pharaoh will say of the Israelites, “They are wandering aimlessly in the land; the wilderness has closed in on them.”

Contemporary English Version
The king will think you were afraid to cross the desert and that you are wandering around, trying to find another way to leave the country.
