Jesus Our Apostle and High Priest

1Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the Apostle and High Priest of our profession; 2being faithful to him who appointed him, as indeed Moses in all his house. 3For he is esteemed worthy of more honor than Moses, inasmuch as the One having built it, has more honor than the house. 4For every house is built by some one; and the one having built all things is God. 5And Moses was indeed faithful in all his house as a servant, unto the testimony of those things which shall be spoken; 6but Christ was as a son, over his own house; whose house we are, if we hold fast the boldness and rejoicing of hope firm unto the end.

Do Not Harden Your Hearts

7Therefore as the Holy Spirit says, This day if you hear his voice,

8harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness,

9whom our fathers tempted in proving me, and saw my works forty years.

10Therefore I was provoked with this generation, and I said, They do always err in their heart: and they have not known my way,

11as I swore in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.

The Peril of Unbelief

12See, brethren, lest at some time there shall be in some one of you an evil heart of unbelief, in turning away from the living God: 13but exhort one another each day, while it is called to-day; in order that no one of you may be hardened with the deceitfulness of sin: 14for we have been made partakers of Christ, if indeed we may hold fast the beginning of confidence firm unto the end.

15In that it is said, This day if you hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation:

16for who were those, having heard, who were hardened? yea, were they not all those having come out of Egypt under Moses? 17And with whom was he provoked forty years? was it not with those that sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness? 18And to whom did he swear that they should not enter into his rest, but to those who believed not? 19And we see that they were not able to enter in on account of their unbelief.
