1 John 2
Literal Emphasis Translation Par ▾
1My little children, I am writing these things to you, so that you might not sin; and if anyone should sin, we have an Advocate (Paraclete, Parakleton- called to be close-beside, latin-advocatum-advocate) with (to, towards) the Father, Jesus Christ the Righteous (Just); 2And He is the propitiation (greek-hilasmos- an atoning offering/sacrifice to appease/satisfy an angry/offended party, lation-propitiatio-propitiation) for our sins; and not only for ours, but rather also for the whole world.

3And by (in) this we know that we have come to know Him, if we should keep (guard, observe) His commandments. 4The one saying, “I have known Him, ” and is not keeping His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him; 5However whoever might keep His word, truly the love of God has been perfected in him. By (in) this we know that we are in Him: 6The one saying (claiming) to abide (remain) in Him ought himself also to walk in the same way just as He walked.

7Beloved, I am not writing a new commandment to you, but rather an old commandment, which you have had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word that you have heard. 8I am again writing a new commandment to you, which is true in Him and in you, because the darkness is passing away (departing), and the true light already shines (appears). 9The one saying (claiming) he is in the light, and is hating (detesting, denouncing) his brother, is in the darkness even until now. 10The one loving his brother, abides (remains) in the light and there is no cause for stumbling in him. 11However the one hating his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness; and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.

12I write to you, little children, because your sins have been remitted (sent away, discharged, released) you, through His name. 13I am writing to you, fathers, because you have known Him who is from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome (conquered, niked, prevailed) the evil one (poneron). I have written to you, young children (paidia-child under training usually under 20), because you have known the Father. 14I have written to you, fathers, because you have known Him who is from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, you have overcome the evil one (poneron).

15Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone should love the world, the love of the Father is not in him; 16Because all that which is in the world, the passionate urge of the flesh, and the passionate urge of the eyes, and the boastfulness (vaunting, empty boasts, braggadocios) of life, is not from out of the Father, but rather is from out of the world. 17And the world is passing away and the passionate urge of it; however the one doing the will of God abides (remains) unto the age.

18Young children (paidia), it is the last hour, and just as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have emerged, whereby we know that it is the last hour. 19From out of us they went out, but rather they were not from out of us; for if they had been from out of us, they would have remained with us; but rather so that it might be made apparent that not all are from out of us. 20And you have the anointing (greek-chrisma root is anoint with oil, latin-unctionem-anointing) from (away from) the Holy One, and you know (perceive, see & know) all things. 21I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but rather because you know it, and that any lie is not from out of the truth. 22Who is the liar, if not the one denying (repudiating, contradicting, refusing to affirm/confess, disowning) that Jesus is not the Christ? This is the antichrist, the one denying the Father and the Son. 23Everyone denying the Son, neither has he the Father. The one confessing (speaking the same conclusion) the Son, also has the Father. 24As for you, let what you have heard from the beginning abide (remain) in you. If what you have heard from the beginning should abide in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father.

25And this is the promise that He promised us: eternal life.

26I have written these things to you concerning those leading you astray (causing you to wander/deviate off-course); 27As for you, the anointing that you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone should teach you; but rather as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie; and just as it has taught you, you shall abide in Him.

28And now, little children, abide in Him, so that when He appears (is made apparent) we might have bold resolve (boldness), and not be put to shame from Him in (at) His coming (arrival). 29If you know that He is righteous (just), you know that also everyone practicing righteousness (justice) has been begotten from out of Him.
