Then the LORD said to Moses,
This phrase indicates direct communication from God to Moses, a common occurrence in the Pentateuch, highlighting Moses' unique role as a prophet and leader of Israel. The LORD, represented by the tetragrammaton YHWH, emphasizes the covenantal relationship between God and His people. This communication underscores the divine authority behind the instructions that follow. Moses, as the mediator of God's covenant, is a type of Christ, who is the ultimate mediator between God and humanity (1 Timothy 2:5). The context here is the preparation of the Israelites to live as a holy nation, set apart for God's purposes, which is a recurring theme throughout the Torah.
Persons / Places / Events
1. The LORD (Yahweh)
The covenant-keeping God of Israel, who communicates His will and blessings to His people through His chosen leaders.

2. Moses
The prophet and leader of the Israelites, chosen by God to lead His people out of Egypt and to receive His laws and instructions.

3. Israelites
The chosen people of God, who are the recipients of God's laws and blessings through Moses.
Teaching Points
Divine Communication
God speaks to His people through chosen leaders. This emphasizes the importance of listening to and respecting those whom God has placed in spiritual authority.

Covenant Relationship
The LORD's communication with Moses underscores the covenant relationship between God and Israel. Believers today are reminded of their covenant relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

Role of Leadership
Moses' role as a mediator between God and the Israelites highlights the importance of godly leadership in guiding and instructing the community of faith.

Obedience to God's Word
The instructions given to Moses are meant to be followed by the Israelites. Similarly, believers are called to obey God's Word as revealed in Scripture.

Blessing and Responsibility
The context of Numbers 6:22 leads into the priestly blessing, reminding us that with God's blessing comes the responsibility to live according to His will.Verse 22. - The Lord spake unto Moses. It is a matter of mere conjecture at what point of time this command was given. As it concerned the priests and their daily ministration, it would be natural to suppose that it was given at the time when the tabernacle service was set up, i.e., at the precise point fixed by the first verse of the following chapter. That the command was given to Moses, and to Moses alone, and that after the consecration of Aaron to the high priesthood, serves to bring out into clear relief the relative position of the two. Aaron and his sons alone, as the "official" representatives of the Lord, could bless in his name and put . his name upon the people; but the formula of blessing was delivered to Aaron himself through Moses, as the "personal" representative of the Lord, the mediator of the old covenant. Ὁ νόμος. . διαταγεὶς . . ἐν χειρὶ μεσίτου (Galatians 3:19). Our Lord is both the Moses (Acts 3:22) and the Aaron (Hebrews 6:20) - 5 ὁ μεσίτης and ὁ ἀρχιερεὺς - of this dispensation.
