Then Bildad the Shuhite replied:1Then Bildad the Shuhite answered,
“How long will you go on saying such things? The words of your mouth are a blustering wind.2"How long will you say these things, And the words of your mouth be a mighty wind?
Does God pervert justice? Does the Almighty pervert what is right?3"Does God pervert justice? Or does the Almighty pervert what is right?
When your children sinned against Him, He gave them over to their rebellion.4"If your sons sinned against Him, Then He delivered them into the power of their transgression.
But if you would earnestly seek God and ask the Almighty for mercy,5"If you would seek God And implore the compassion of the Almighty,
if you are pure and upright, even now He will rouse Himself on your behalf and restore your righteous estate.6If you are pure and upright, Surely now He would rouse Himself for you And restore your righteous estate.
Though your beginnings were modest, your latter days will flourish.7"Though your beginning was insignificant, Yet your end will increase greatly.
Please inquire of past generations and consider the discoveries of their fathers.8"Please inquire of past generations, And consider the things searched out by their fathers.
For we were born yesterday and know nothing; our days on earth are but a shadow.9"For we are only of yesterday and know nothing, Because our days on earth are as a shadow.
Will they not teach you and tell you, and speak from their understanding?10"Will they not teach you and tell you, And bring forth words from their minds?
Does papyrus grow where there is no marsh? Do reeds flourish without water?11"Can the papyrus grow up without a marsh? Can the rushes grow without water?
While the shoots are still uncut, they dry up quicker than grass.12"While it is still green and not cut down, Yet it withers before any other plant.
Such is the destiny of all who forget God; so the hope of the godless will perish.13"So are the paths of all who forget God; And the hope of the godless will perish,
His confidence is fragile; his security is in a spider’s web.14Whose confidence is fragile, And whose trust a spider's web.
He leans on his web, but it gives way; he holds fast, but it does not endure.15"He trusts in his house, but it does not stand; He holds fast to it, but it does not endure.
He is a well-watered plant in the sunshine, spreading its shoots over the garden.16"He thrives before the sun, And his shoots spread out over his garden.
His roots wrap around the rock heap; he looks for a home among the stones.17"His roots wrap around a rock pile, He grasps a house of stones.
If he is uprooted from his place, it will disown him, saying, ‘I never saw you.’18"If he is removed from his place, Then it will deny him, saying, 'I never saw you.'
Surely this is the joy of his way; yet others will spring from the dust.19"Behold, this is the joy of His way; And out of the dust others will spring.
Behold, God does not reject the blameless, nor will He strengthen the hand of evildoers.20"Lo, God will not reject a man of integrity, Nor will He support the evildoers.
He will yet fill your mouth with laughter, and your lips with a shout of joy.21"He will yet fill your mouth with laughter And your lips with shouting.
Your enemies will be clothed in shame, and the tent of the wicked will be no more.”22"Those who hate you will be clothed with shame, And the tent of the wicked will be no longer."
