| 1LORD, God of vengeance--God of vengeance, shine! | 1O LORD, God of vengeance, God of vengeance, shine forth! |
| 2Rise up, Judge of the earth; repay the proud what they deserve. | 2Rise up, O Judge of the earth, Render recompense to the proud. |
| 3LORD, how long will the wicked--how long will the wicked celebrate? | 3How long shall the wicked, O LORD, How long shall the wicked exult? |
| 4They pour out arrogant words; all the evildoers boast. | 4They pour forth words, they speak arrogantly; All who do wickedness vaunt themselves. |
| 5LORD, they crush your people; they oppress your heritage. | 5They crush Your people, O LORD, And afflict Your heritage. |
| 6They kill the widow and the resident alien and murder the fatherless. | 6They slay the widow and the stranger And murder the orphans. |
| 7They say, "The LORD doesn't see it. The God of Jacob doesn't pay attention." | 7They have said, "The LORD does not see, Nor does the God of Jacob pay heed." |
| 8Pay attention, you stupid people! Fools, when will you be wise? | 8Pay heed, you senseless among the people; And when will you understand, stupid ones? |
| 9Can the one who shaped the ear not hear, the one who formed the eye not see? | 9He who planted the ear, does He not hear? He who formed the eye, does He not see? |
| 10The one who instructs nations, the one who teaches mankind knowledge--does he not discipline? | 10He who chastens the nations, will He not rebuke, Even He who teaches man knowledge? |
| 11The LORD knows the thoughts of mankind; they are futile. | 11The LORD knows the thoughts of man, That they are a mere breath. |
| 12LORD, how happy is anyone you discipline and teach from your law | 12Blessed is the man whom You chasten, O LORD, And whom You teach out of Your law; |
| 13to give him relief from troubled times until a pit is dug for the wicked. | 13That You may grant him relief from the days of adversity, Until a pit is dug for the wicked. |
| 14The LORD will not leave his people or abandon his heritage, | 14For the LORD will not abandon His people, Nor will He forsake His inheritance. |
| 15for the administration of justice will again be righteous, and all the upright in heart will follow it. | 15For judgment will again be righteous, And all the upright in heart will follow it. |
| 16Who stands up for me against the wicked? Who takes a stand for me against evildoers? | 16Who will stand up for me against evildoers? Who will take his stand for me against those who do wickedness? |
| 17If the LORD had not been my helper, I would soon rest in the silence of death. | 17If the LORD had not been my help, My soul would soon have dwelt in the abode of silence. |
| 18If I say, "My foot is slipping," your faithful love will support me, LORD. | 18If I should say, "My foot has slipped," Your lovingkindness, O LORD, will hold me up. |
| 19When I am filled with cares, your comfort brings me joy. | 19When my anxious thoughts multiply within me, Your consolations delight my soul. |
| 20Can a corrupt throne be your ally, a throne that makes evil laws? | 20Can a throne of destruction be allied with You, One which devises mischief by decree? |
| 21They band together against the life of the righteous and condemn the innocent to death. | 21They band themselves together against the life of the righteous And condemn the innocent to death. |
| 22But the LORD is my refuge; my God is the rock of my protection. | 22But the LORD has been my stronghold, And my God the rock of my refuge. |
| 23He will pay them back for their sins and destroy them for their evil. The LORD our God will destroy them. | 23He has brought back their wickedness upon them And will destroy them in their evil; The LORD our God will destroy them. |
