But you are to proclaim things consistent with sound teaching.1But as for you, speak the things which are fitting for sound doctrine.
Older men are to be self-controlled, worthy of respect, sensible, and sound in faith, love, and endurance.2Older men are to be temperate, dignified, sensible, sound in faith, in love, in perseverance.
In the same way, older women are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not slaves to excessive drinking. They are to teach what is good,3Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good,
so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands and to love their children,4so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children,
to be self-controlled, pure, workers at home, kind, and in submission to their husbands, so that God's word will not be slandered.5to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored.
In the same way, encourage the young men to be self-controlled6Likewise urge the young men to be sensible;
in everything. Make yourself an example of good works with integrity and dignity in your teaching.7in all things show yourself to be an example of good deeds, with purity in doctrine, dignified,
Your message is to be sound beyond reproach, so that any opponent will be ashamed, because he doesn't have anything bad to say about us.8sound in speech which is beyond reproach, so that the opponent will be put to shame, having nothing bad to say about us.
Slaves are to submit to their masters in everything, and to be well-pleasing, not talking back9Urge bondslaves to be subject to their own masters in everything, to be well-pleasing, not argumentative,
or stealing, but demonstrating utter faithfulness, so that they may adorn the teaching of God our Savior in everything.10not pilfering, but showing all good faith so that they will adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in every respect.
For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people,11For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men,
instructing us to deny godlessness and worldly lusts and to live in a sensible, righteous, and godly way in the present age,12instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age,
while we wait for the blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ.13looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus,
He gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to cleanse for himself a people for his own possession, eager to do good works.14who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.
Proclaim these things; encourage and rebuke with all authority. Let no one disregard you.15These things speak and exhort and reprove with all authority. Let no one disregard you.
