The Song of Songs, which is Solomon's.1Solomon's Most Excellent Love Song.
Oh, that he would kiss me with the kisses of his mouth! For your caresses are more delightful than wine.2Oh, how I wish you would kiss me passionately! For your lovemaking is more delightful than wine.
The fragrance of your perfume is intoxicating; your name is perfume poured out. No wonder young women adore you.3The fragrance of your colognes is delightful; your name is like the finest perfume. No wonder the young women adore you!
Take me with you--let's hurry. Oh, that the king would bring me to his chambers. Young Women We will rejoice and be glad in you; we will celebrate your caresses more than wine. Woman It is only right that they adore you.4Draw me after you; let us hurry! May the king bring me into his bedroom chambers! The Maidens to the Lover: We will rejoice and delight in you; we will praise your love more than wine. The Beloved to Her Lover: How rightly the young women adore you!
Daughters of Jerusalem, I am dark like the tents of Kedar, yet lovely like the curtains of Solomon.5I am dark but lovely, O maidens of Jerusalem, dark like the tents of Qedar, lovely like the tent curtains of Salmah.
Do not stare at me because I am dark, for the sun has gazed on me. My mother's sons were angry with me; they made me take care of the vineyards. I have not taken care of my own vineyard.6Do not stare at me because I am dark, for the sun has burned my skin. My brothers were angry with me; they made me the keeper of the vineyards. Alas, my own vineyard I could not keep!
Tell me, you whom I love: Where do you pasture your sheep? Where do you let them rest at noon? Why should I be like one who veils herself beside the flocks of your companions?7Tell me, O you whom my heart loves, where do you pasture your sheep? Where do you rest your sheep during the midday heat? Tell me lest I wander around beside the flocks of your companions!
If you do not know, most beautiful of women, follow the tracks of the flock, and pasture your young goats near the shepherds' tents.8If you do not know, O most beautiful of women, simply follow the tracks of my flock, and pasture your little lambs beside the tents of the shepherds.
I compare you, my darling, to a mare among Pharaoh's chariots.9The Lover to His Beloved: O my beloved, you are like a mare among Pharaoh's stallions.
Your cheeks are beautiful with jewelry, your neck with its necklace.10Your cheeks are beautiful with ornaments; your neck is lovely with strings of jewels.
We will make gold jewelry for you, accented with silver.11We will make for you gold ornaments studded with silver.
While the king is on his couch, my perfume releases its fragrance.12While the king was at his banqueting table, my nard gave forth its fragrance.
The one I love is a sachet of myrrh to me, spending the night between my breasts.13My beloved is like a fragrant pouch of myrrh spending the night between my breasts.
The one I love is a cluster of henna blossoms to me, in the vineyards of En-gedi.14My beloved is like a cluster of henna blossoms in the vineyards of En-Gedi.
How beautiful you are, my darling. How very beautiful! Your eyes are doves.15Oh, how beautiful you are, my beloved! Oh, how beautiful you are! Your eyes are like doves!
How handsome you are, my love. How delightful! Our bed is verdant;16Oh, how handsome you are, my lover! Oh, how delightful you are! The lush foliage is our canopied bed;
the beams of our house are cedars, and our rafters are cypresses.17the cedars are the beams of our bedroom chamber; the pines are the rafters of our bedroom.
