Christian Standard Bible | New International Version |
I have taken refuge in the LORD. How can you say to me, "Escape to the mountains like a bird! | 1For the director of music. Of David. In the LORD I take refuge. How then can you say to me: "Flee like a bird to your mountain. |
For look, the wicked string bows; they put their arrows on bowstrings to shoot from the shadows at the upright in heart. | 2For look, the wicked bend their bows; they set their arrows against the strings to shoot from the shadows at the upright in heart. |
When the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?" | 3When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do?" |
The LORD is in his holy temple; the LORD--his throne is in heaven. His eyes watch; his gaze examines everyone. | 4The LORD is in his holy temple; the LORD is on his heavenly throne. He observes everyone on earth; his eyes examine them. |
The LORD examines the righteous, but he hates the wicked and those who love violence. | 5The LORD examines the righteous, but the wicked, those who love violence, he hates with a passion. |
Let him rain burning coals and sulfur on the wicked; let a scorching wind be the portion in their cup. | 6On the wicked he will rain fiery coals and burning sulfur; a scorching wind will be their lot. |
For the LORD is righteous; he loves righteous deeds. The upright will see his face. | 7For the LORD is righteous, he loves justice; the upright will see his face. |
