English Standard Version | NET Bible |
Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; | 1How blessed is the one who does not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand in the pathway with sinners, or sit in the assembly of scoffers! |
but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. | 2Instead he finds pleasure in obeying the LORD's commands; he meditates on his commands day and night. |
He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. | 3He is like a tree planted by flowing streams; it yields its fruit at the proper time, and its leaves never fall off. He succeeds in everything he attempts. |
The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away. | 4Not so with the wicked! Instead they are like wind-driven chaff. |
Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous; | 5For this reason the wicked cannot withstand judgment, nor can sinners join the assembly of the godly. |
for the LORD knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish. | 6Certainly the LORD guards the way of the godly, but the way of the wicked ends in destruction. |
