English Standard Version | New International Version |
The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? | 1Of David. The LORD is my light and my salvation-- whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life-- of whom shall I be afraid? |
When evildoers assail me to eat up my flesh, my adversaries and foes, it is they who stumble and fall. | 2When the wicked advance against me to devour me, it is my enemies and my foes who will stumble and fall. |
Though an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war arise against me, yet I will be confident. | 3Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then I will be confident. |
One thing have I asked of the LORD, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to inquire in his temple. | 4One thing I ask from the LORD, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple. |
For he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble; he will conceal me under the cover of his tent; he will lift me high upon a rock. | 5For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent and set me high upon a rock. |
And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me, and I will offer in his tent sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing and make melody to the LORD. | 6Then my head will be exalted above the enemies who surround me; at his sacred tent I will sacrifice with shouts of joy; I will sing and make music to the LORD. |
Hear, O LORD, when I cry aloud; be gracious to me and answer me! | 7Hear my voice when I call, LORD; be merciful to me and answer me. |
You have said, “Seek my face.” My heart says to you, “Your face, LORD, do I seek.” | 8My heart says of you, "Seek his face!" Your face, LORD, I will seek. |
Hide not your face from me. Turn not your servant away in anger, O you who have been my help. Cast me not off; forsake me not, O God of my salvation! | 9Do not hide your face from me, do not turn your servant away in anger; you have been my helper. Do not reject me or forsake me, God my Savior. |
For my father and my mother have forsaken me, but the LORD will take me in. | 10Though my father and mother forsake me, the LORD will receive me. |
Teach me your way, O LORD, and lead me on a level path because of my enemies. | 11Teach me your way, LORD; lead me in a straight path because of my oppressors. |
Give me not up to the will of my adversaries; for false witnesses have risen against me, and they breathe out violence. | 12Do not turn me over to the desire of my foes, for false witnesses rise up against me, spouting malicious accusations. |
I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living! | 13I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. |
Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD! | 14Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD. |
