English Standard Version | New International Version |
O God, save me by your name, and vindicate me by your might. | 1For the director of music. With stringed instruments. A maskil of David. When the Ziphites had gone to Saul and said, "Is not David hiding among us?" Save me, O God, by your name; vindicate me by your might. |
O God, hear my prayer; give ear to the words of my mouth. | 2Hear my prayer, O God; listen to the words of my mouth. |
For strangers have risen against me; ruthless men seek my life; they do not set God before themselves. Selah | 3Arrogant foes are attacking me; ruthless people are trying to kill me-- people without regard for God. |
Behold, God is my helper; the Lord is the upholder of my life. | 4Surely God is my help; the Lord is the one who sustains me. |
He will return the evil to my enemies; in your faithfulness put an end to them. | 5Let evil recoil on those who slander me; in your faithfulness destroy them. |
With a freewill offering I will sacrifice to you; I will give thanks to your name, O LORD, for it is good. | 6I will sacrifice a freewill offering to you; I will praise your name, LORD, for it is good. |
For he has delivered me from every trouble, and my eye has looked in triumph on my enemies. | 7You have delivered me from all my troubles, and my eyes have looked in triumph on my foes. |
