2How you have helped the powerless and delivered the arm that is weak! | 2“How you have helped him who has no power! How you have saved the arm that has no strength! |
3How you have counseled the unwise and thoroughly explained the path to success! | 3How you have counseled him who has no wisdom, and plentifully declared sound knowledge! |
4Who did you speak these words to? Whose breath came out of your mouth? | 4With whose help have you uttered words, and whose breath has come out from you? |
5The departed spirits tremble beneath the waters and all that inhabit them. | 5The dead tremble under the waters and their inhabitants. |
6Sheol is naked before God, and Abaddon has no covering. | 6Sheol is naked before God, and Abaddon has no covering. |
7He stretches the northern skies over empty space; He hangs the earth on nothing. | 7He stretches out the north over the void and hangs the earth on nothing. |
8He wraps up the waters in His clouds, yet the clouds do not burst beneath their weight. | 8He binds up the waters in his thick clouds, and the cloud is not split open under them. |
9He obscures the view of His throne, spreading His cloud over it. | 9He covers the face of the full moon and spreads over it his cloud. |
10He laid out the horizon on the surface of the waters at the boundary between light and darkness. | 10He has inscribed a circle on the face of the waters at the boundary between light and darkness. |
11The pillars that hold up the sky tremble, astounded at His rebuke. | 11The pillars of heaven tremble and are astounded at his rebuke. |
12By His power He stirred the sea, and by His understanding He crushed Rahab. | 12By his power he stilled the sea; by his understanding he shattered Rahab. |
13By His breath the heavens gained their beauty; His hand pierced the fleeing serpent. | 13By his wind the heavens were made fair; his hand pierced the fleeing serpent. |
14These are but the fringes of His ways; how faint is the word we hear of Him! Who can understand His mighty thunder? | 14Behold, these are but the outskirts of his ways, and how small a whisper do we hear of him! But the thunder of his power who can understand?” |
