Summoning His 12 disciples, He gave them authority over unclean spirits, to drive them out and to heal every disease and sickness.1Jesus summoned His twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every kind of disease and every kind of sickness.
These are the names of the 12 apostles: First, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; 2Now the names of the twelve apostles are these: The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; and James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother;
Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; 3Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus;
Simon the Zealot, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed Him. 4Simon the Zealot, and Judas Iscariot, the one who betrayed Him.
Jesus sent out these 12 after giving them instructions: "Don't take the road leading to other nations, and don't enter any Samaritan town. 5These twelve Jesus sent out after instructing them: "Do not go in the way of the Gentiles, and do not enter any city of the Samaritans;
Instead, go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.6but rather go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
As you go, announce this: 'The kingdom of heaven has come near.'7"And as you go, preach, saying, 'The kingdom of heaven is at hand.'
Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those with skin diseases, drive out demons. You have received free of charge; give free of charge. 8"Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. Freely you received, freely give.
Don't take along gold, silver, or copper for your money-belts. 9"Do not acquire gold, or silver, or copper for your money belts,
Don't take a traveling bag for the road, or an extra shirt, sandals, or a walking stick, for the worker is worthy of his food. 10or a bag for your journey, or even two coats, or sandals, or a staff; for the worker is worthy of his support.
"When you enter any town or village, find out who is worthy, and stay there until you leave. 11"And whatever city or village you enter, inquire who is worthy in it, and stay at his house until you leave that city.
Greet a household when you enter it,12"As you enter the house, give it your greeting.
and if the household is worthy, let your peace be on it. But if it is unworthy, let your peace return to you.13"If the house is worthy, give it your blessing of peace. But if it is not worthy, take back your blessing of peace.
If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, shake the dust off your feet when you leave that house or town. 14"Whoever does not receive you, nor heed your words, as you go out of that house or that city, shake the dust off your feet.
I assure you: It will be more tolerable on the day of judgment for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah than for that town. 15"Truly I say to you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city.
"Look, I'm sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as serpents and as harmless as doves.16"Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves; so be shrewd as serpents and innocent as doves.
Because people will hand you over to sanhedrins and flog you in their synagogues, beware of them.17"But beware of men, for they will hand you over to the courts and scourge you in their synagogues;
You will even be brought before governors and kings because of Me, to bear witness to them and to the nations.18and you will even be brought before governors and kings for My sake, as a testimony to them and to the Gentiles.
But when they hand you over, don't worry about how or what you should speak. For you will be given what to say at that hour, 19"But when they hand you over, do not worry about how or what you are to say; for it will be given you in that hour what you are to say.
because you are not speaking, but the Spirit of your Father is speaking through you. 20"For it is not you who speak, but it is the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you.
"Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child. Children will even rise up against their parents and have them put to death.21"Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death.
You will be hated by everyone because of My name. But the one who endures to the end will be delivered. 22"You will be hated by all because of My name, but it is the one who has endured to the end who will be saved.
When they persecute you in one town, escape to another. For I assure you: You will not have covered the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes. 23"But whenever they persecute you in one city, flee to the next; for truly I say to you, you will not finish going through the cities of Israel until the Son of Man comes.
A disciple is not above his teacher, or a slave above his master.24"A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a slave above his master.
It is enough for a disciple to become like his teacher and a slave like his master. If they called the head of the house 'Beelzebul,' how much more the members of his household! 25"It is enough for the disciple that he become like his teacher, and the slave like his master. If they have called the head of the house Beelzebul, how much more will they malign the members of his household!
"Therefore, don't be afraid of them, since there is nothing covered that won't be uncovered and nothing hidden that won't be made known.26"Therefore do not fear them, for there is nothing concealed that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known.
What I tell you in the dark, speak in the light. What you hear in a whisper, proclaim on the housetops.27"What I tell you in the darkness, speak in the light; and what you hear whispered in your ear, proclaim upon the housetops.
Don't fear those who kill the body but are not able to kill the soul; rather, fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. 28"Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
Aren't two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them falls to the ground without your Father's consent. 29"Are not two sparrows sold for a cent? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father.
But even the hairs of your head have all been counted.30"But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
So don't be afraid therefore; you are worth more than many sparrows. 31"So do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows.
"Therefore, everyone who will acknowledge Me before men, I will also acknowledge him before My Father in heaven.32"Therefore everyone who confesses Me before men, I will also confess him before My Father who is in heaven.
But whoever denies Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father in heaven. 33"But whoever denies Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father who is in heaven.
Don't assume that I came to bring peace on the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.34"Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.
For I came to turn a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; 35"For I came to SET A MAN AGAINST HIS FATHER, AND A DAUGHTER AGAINST HER MOTHER, AND A DAUGHTER-IN-LAW AGAINST HER MOTHER-IN-LAW;
and a man's enemies will be the members of his household. 36and A MAN'S ENEMIES WILL BE THE MEMBERS OF HIS HOUSEHOLD.
The person who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; the person who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. 37"He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; and he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.
And whoever doesn't take up his cross and follow Me is not worthy of Me. 38"And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me.
Anyone finding his life will lose it, and anyone losing his life because of Me will find it. 39"He who has found his life will lose it, and he who has lost his life for My sake will find it.
"The one who welcomes you welcomes Me, and the one who welcomes Me welcomes Him who sent Me.40"He who receives you receives Me, and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me.
Anyone who welcomes a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet's reward. And anyone who welcomes a righteous person because he's righteous will receive a righteous person's reward. 41"He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward; and he who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward.
And whoever gives just a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is a disciple --I assure you: He will never lose his reward!" 42"And whoever in the name of a disciple gives to one of these little ones even a cup of cold water to drink, truly I say to you, he shall not lose his reward."
