Holman Christian Standard BibleNew International Version
I looked up again and saw a flying scroll."1I looked again, and there before me was a flying scroll.
What do you see?" he asked me." I see a flying scroll," I replied, "30 feet long and 15 feet wide." 2He asked me, "What do you see?" I answered, "I see a flying scroll, twenty cubits long and ten cubits wide."
Then he said to me, "This is the curse that is going out over the whole land, for every thief will be removed according to what is written on one side, and everyone who swears falsely will be removed according to what is written on the other side.3And he said to me, "This is the curse that is going out over the whole land; for according to what it says on one side, every thief will be banished, and according to what it says on the other, everyone who swears falsely will be banished.
I will send it out,"--this is the declaration of the LORD of Hosts--"and it will enter the house of the thief and the house of the one who swears falsely by My name. It will stay inside his house and destroy it along with its timbers and stones." 4The LORD Almighty declares, 'I will send it out, and it will enter the house of the thief and the house of anyone who swears falsely by my name. It will remain in that house and destroy it completely, both its timbers and its stones.'"
Then the angel who was speaking with me came forward and told me, "Look up and see what this is that is approaching." 5Then the angel who was speaking to me came forward and said to me, "Look up and see what is appearing."
So I asked, "What is it?" He responded, "It's a measuring basket that is approaching." And he continued, "This is their iniquity in all the land." 6I asked, "What is it?" He replied, "It is a basket." And he added, "This is the iniquity of the people throughout the land."
Then a lead cover was lifted, and there was a woman sitting inside the basket."7Then the cover of lead was raised, and there in the basket sat a woman!
This is Wickedness," he said. He shoved her down into the basket and pushed the lead weight over its opening. 8He said, "This is wickedness," and he pushed her back into the basket and pushed its lead cover down on it.
Then I looked up and saw two women approaching with the wind in their wings. Their wings were like those of a stork, and they lifted up the basket between earth and sky. 9Then I looked up--and there before me were two women, with the wind in their wings! They had wings like those of a stork, and they lifted up the basket between heaven and earth.
So I asked the angel who was speaking with me, "Where are they taking the basket?"" 10"Where are they taking the basket?" I asked the angel who was speaking to me.
To build a shrine for it in the land of Shinar," he told me. "When that is ready, the basket will be placed there on its pedestal." 11He replied, "To the country of Babylonia to build a house for it. When the house is ready, the basket will be set there in its place."
