"Now I'll conclude with this: my heart is trembling violently; it feels like it's about to leap from my body! | 1“At this my heart also pounds and leaps from its place. |
Listen carefully to his thundering voice; to the sound that rumbles from his mouth. | 2Listen closely to the thunder of His voice and the rumbling that comes from His mouth. |
He releases his lightning throughout the sky, to the ends of the earth. | 3He unleashes His lightning beneath the whole sky and sends it to the ends of the earth. |
His thunder roars after it; his majestic voice will thunder; and no one can trace them once his voice has been heard. | 4Then there comes a roaring sound; He thunders with His majestic voice. He does not restrain the lightning when His voice resounds. |
"God thunders with his wondrous voice; he does awesome works that we don't comprehend. | 5God thunders wondrously with His voice; He does great things we cannot comprehend. |
For he says to the snow, 'Fall to the earth.' He tells the rain, 'Pour down,' then it rains profusely. | 6For He says to the snow, ‘Fall on the earth,’ and to the gentle rain, ‘Pour out a mighty downpour.’ |
"He puts a limit to the skill of every person; to delineate all people from what they do. | 7He seals up the hand of every man, so that all men may know His work. |
"Then a beast enters its lair and remains in its den. | 8The wild animals enter their lairs; they settle down in their dens. |
"From the south, a whirlwind proceeds, out of the icy north winds. | 9The tempest comes from its chamber, and the cold from the driving north winds. |
From the breath of God ice is produced, and a wide body of water is frozen. | 10By the breath of God the ice is formed and the watery expanses are frozen. |
He also loads the clouds with moisture, scattering his lightning with the clouds. | 11He loads the clouds with moisture; He scatters His lightning through them. |
It whirls about in circles at his direction to accomplish all that he commands throughout the surface of the entire world, | 12They swirl about, whirling at His direction, accomplishing all that He commands over the face of all the earth. |
whether for discipline on his land or to demonstrate his gracious love, he causes it to be realized." | 13Whether for punishment or for His land, He accomplishes this in His loving devotion. |
"Pay attention to this, Job! Stand still, and consider the wondrous attributes of God. | 14Listen to this, O Job; stand still and consider the wonders of God. |
Do you know how God ordains them, and makes his lightning to flash throughout his clouds? | 15Do you know how God dispatches the clouds or makes the lightning flash? |
Do you understand his wondrous work of balancing the clouds, the one whose knowledge is perfect, | 16Do you understand how the clouds float, those wonders of Him who is perfect in knowledge? |
you whose garments are hot, even though the land is cooled by a south wind? | 17You whose clothes get hot when the land lies hushed under the south wind, |
Can you spread out the skies like he does; can you cast them as one might a mirror? | 18can you, like Him, spread out the skies to reflect the heat like a mirror of bronze? |
Tell us! What are we to say to him? Can we prepare our case to face him when our faces are in darkness? | 19Teach us what we should say to Him; we cannot draw up our case when our faces are in darkness. |
Has it been relayed to God that I want to talk? Can a person speak when he is confused?" | 20Should He be told that I want to speak? Would a man ask to be swallowed up? |
"So then, the sun is too bright to gaze at, is it not? The sky is swept clean by the wind that blows, is it not? | 21Now no one can gaze at the sun when it is bright in the skies after the wind has swept them clean. |
From the north he brings gold; around God is awesome splendor. | 22Out of the north He comes in golden splendor; awesome majesty surrounds Him. |
We cannot find the Almighty— he is majestic in power and justice, and overflowing with righteousness; he never oppresses. | 23The Almighty is beyond our reach; He is exalted in power! In His justice and great righteousness He does not oppress. |
Therefore humanity fears him, which none of the wise can quite comprehend." | 24Therefore, men fear Him, for He is not partial to the wise in heart.” |
