| 1We praise you, God! We praise you —your presence draws near— as we declare your wonderful deeds. | 1To the chief Musician, Altaschith, A Psalm or Song of Asaph. Unto thee, O God, do we give thanks, unto thee do we give thanks: for that thy name is near thy wondrous works declare. |
| 2"At the time that I choose I will judge the righteous. | 2When I shall receive the congregation I will judge uprightly. |
| 3While the earth and all its inhabitants melt away, it is I who keep its pillars firm." Interlude | 3The earth and all the inhabitants thereof are dissolved: I bear up the pillars of it. Selah. |
| 4I will say to the proud, "Don't brag," and to the wicked, "Don't vaunt your strength. | 4I said unto the fools, Deal not foolishly: and to the wicked, Lift not up the horn: |
| 5Don't use your strength to fight heaven or speak from stubborn arrogance." | 5Lift not up your horn on high: speak not with a stiff neck. |
| 6For exaltation comes not from the east, the west, or the wilderness, | 6For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. |
| 7since God is the judge. This one he will debase or that one he will exalt. | 7But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another. |
| 8For there is a cup in the hand of the LORD, foaming with well-mixed wine that he will pour out, leaving only the dregs, from which all the wicked of the earth will drink. | 8For in the hand of the LORD there is a cup, and the wine is red; it is full of mixture; and he poureth out of the same: but the dregs thereof, all the wicked of the earth shall wring them out, and drink them. |
| 9But as for me, I will declare forever, singing praise to the God of Jacob. | 9But I will declare for ever; I will sing praises to the God of Jacob. |
| 10I will cut down the strength of the wicked, but the strength of the righteous will be lifted up. | 10All the horns of the wicked also will I cut off; but the horns of the righteous shall be exalted. |
