Hosea 11
ISV Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
International Standard VersionNew Living Translation
"When Israel was a young child I loved him, and from Egypt I called my son.1“When Israel was a child, I loved him, and I called my son out of Egypt.
The more I called out to them, the farther they fled from me; they sacrificed to Baals, burning incense to carved images.2But the more I called to him, the farther he moved from me, offering sacrifices to the images of Baal and burning incense to idols.
Yet it was I who taught Ephraim to walk, supporting them by their arms, but they never knew that I was healing them.3I myself taught Israel how to walk, leading him along by the hand. But he doesn’t know or even care that it was I who took care of him.
I guided them with human kindness, with loving reins. I acted toward them like one who removes a yoke from their neck; I bent down and fed them.4I led Israel along with my ropes of kindness and love. I lifted the yoke from his neck, and I myself stooped to feed him.
"They will not return to the land of Egypt; instead, the Assyrian will be their king, because they kept refusing to repent.5“But since my people refuse to return to me, they will return to Egypt and will be forced to serve Assyria.
The sword will fall on their cities, consuming and devouring their fortified gates, despite their planning.6War will swirl through their cities; their enemies will crash through their gates. They will destroy them, trapping them in their own evil plans.
My people are determined to turn away from me; though they call to the Most High, no one is worshiping.7For my people are determined to desert me. They call me the Most High, but they don’t truly honor me.
"How can I give up on you, Ephraim? I will deliver you, will I not, Israel? How can I treat you like Admah? I can't make you like Zeboim, can I? My heart stirs within me; my compassion also fans into flame!8“Oh, how can I give you up, Israel? How can I let you go? How can I destroy you like Admah or demolish you like Zeboiim? My heart is torn within me, and my compassion overflows.
I will not act in my anger; I will not return to destroy Ephraim, For I am God, and not a human— the Holy One among you— so I will not enter the city in anger. 9No, I will not unleash my fierce anger. I will not completely destroy Israel, for I am God and not a mere mortal. I am the Holy One living among you, and I will not come to destroy.
They will go after the LORD, who will roar like a lion; and when he roars, the children will come trembling from the west.10For someday the people will follow me. I, the LORD, will roar like a lion. And when I roar, my people will return trembling from the west.
Trembling like a bird, they will come out of Egypt, and as a dove from the land of Assyria; and I will settle them in their houses," declares the LORD.11Like a flock of birds, they will come from Egypt. Trembling like doves, they will return from Assyria. And I will bring them home again,” says the LORD. Charges against Israel and Judah
"Ephraim surrounds me with lies, and the house of Israel surrounds me with deceit, But Judah still rules with God, and remains faithful, along with the godly ones."12 Israel surrounds me with lies and deceit, but Judah still obeys God and is faithful to the Holy One.
