A Song of degrees. When the LORD turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream. | 1When the LORD restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dream. |
Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing: then said they among the heathen, The LORD hath done great things for them. | 2Our mouths were filled with laughter then, and our tongues with shouts of joy. Then they said among the nations, "The LORD has done great things for them." |
The LORD hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad. | 3The LORD had done great things for us; we were joyful. |
Turn again our captivity, O LORD, as the streams in the south. | 4Restore our fortunes, LORD, like watercourses in the Negev. |
They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. | 5Those who sow in tears will reap with shouts of joy. |
He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him. | 6Though one goes along weeping, carrying the bag of seed, he will surely come back with shouts of joy, carrying his sheaves. |
