But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine:1But you are to proclaim things consistent with sound teaching.
That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience.2Older men are to be self-controlled, worthy of respect, sensible, and sound in faith, love, and endurance.
The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;3In the same way, older women are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not slaves to excessive drinking. They are to teach what is good,
That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,4so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands and to love their children,
To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.5to be self-controlled, pure, workers at home, kind, and in submission to their husbands, so that God's word will not be slandered.
Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded.6In the same way, encourage the young men to be self-controlled
In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity,7in everything. Make yourself an example of good works with integrity and dignity in your teaching.
Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.8Your message is to be sound beyond reproach, so that any opponent will be ashamed, because he doesn't have anything bad to say about us.
Exhort servants to be obedient unto their own masters, and to please them well in all things; not answering again;9Slaves are to submit to their masters in everything, and to be well-pleasing, not talking back
Not purloining, but shewing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things.10or stealing, but demonstrating utter faithfulness, so that they may adorn the teaching of God our Savior in everything.
For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,11For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people,
Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;12instructing us to deny godlessness and worldly lusts and to live in a sensible, righteous, and godly way in the present age,
Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;13while we wait for the blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.14He gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to cleanse for himself a people for his own possession, eager to do good works.
These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.15Proclaim these things; encourage and rebuke with all authority. Let no one disregard you.
