King James Bible | International Standard Version |
Behold, thou art fair, my love; behold, thou art fair; thou hast doves' eyes within thy locks: thy hair is as a flock of goats, that appear from mount Gilead. | 1Look at you! You are beautiful, my darling. Look at you! You are so beautiful. Your eyes behind your veil are doves, your hair is like a flock of goats coming down from Mt. Gilead. |
Thy teeth are like a flock of sheep that are even shorn, which came up from the washing; whereof every one bear twins, and none is barren among them. | 2Your teeth are like a flock of sheep about to be sheared, who are coming up from being washed. All of them are twins, not one has lost her young. |
Thy lips are like a thread of scarlet, and thy speech is comely: thy temples are like a piece of a pomegranate within thy locks. | 3Your lips are like a scarlet thread, and your mouth is lovely. Behind your veil, your temple is like a slice of pomegranate. |
Thy neck is like the tower of David builded for an armoury, whereon there hang a thousand bucklers, all shields of mighty men. | 4Your neck is like the tower of David, built with rows of stones. A thousand shields are hung upon it, all the shields of the warriors. |
Thy two breasts are like two young roes that are twins, which feed among the lilies. | 5Your two breasts are like two fawns, twins of a gazelle grazing among the lilies. |
Until the day break, and the shadows flee away, I will get me to the mountain of myrrh, and to the hill of frankincense. | 6Until the day breaks and the shadows flee, I'll go to the mountain of myrrh and to the hill of frankincense. |
Thou art all fair, my love; there is no spot in thee. | 7My darling, you are altogether beautiful and there is no blemish in you. |
Come with me from Lebanon, my spouse, with me from Lebanon: look from the top of Amana, from the top of Shenir and Hermon, from the lions' dens, from the mountains of the leopards. | 8Come with me from Lebanon, my bride, come with me from Lebanon. May you journey from the top of Amana, from the tops of Senir and Hermon, from the dens of lions, from the mountain lairs of leopards. |
Thou hast ravished my heart, my sister, my spouse; thou hast ravished my heart with one of thine eyes, with one chain of thy neck. | 9You have made my heart beat faster, my sister, my bride. You have made my heart beat faster with one glance of your eyes, with one strand of your necklace. |
How fair is thy love, my sister, my spouse! how much better is thy love than wine! and the smell of thine ointments than all spices! | 10How beautiful is your love, my sister, my bride. How much better is your love than wine, and the fragrance of your perfume than all kinds of spices. |
Thy lips, O my spouse, drop as the honeycomb: honey and milk are under thy tongue; and the smell of thy garments is like the smell of Lebanon. | 11Your lips drip honey, my bride; milk and honey are under your tongue. The scent of your garments is like the fragrance of Lebanon. |
A garden inclosed is my sister, my spouse; a spring shut up, a fountain sealed. | 12My sister, my bride, is a locked garden a locked rock garden, a sealed up spring. |
Thy plants are an orchard of pomegranates, with pleasant fruits; camphire, with spikenard, | 13Your shoots are an orchard of pomegranates, with choice fruit, henna with nard, |
Spikenard and saffron; calamus and cinnamon, with all trees of frankincense; myrrh and aloes, with all the chief spices: | 14nard and saffron, calamus and cinnamon, with all the trees of frankincense, along with myrrh and aloes, and all the finest spices. |
A fountain of gardens, a well of living waters, and streams from Lebanon. | 15You are a garden spring, a well of fresh water, streams flowing from Lebanon. |
Awake, O north wind; and come, thou south; blow upon my garden, that the spices thereof may flow out. Let my beloved come into his garden, and eat his pleasant fruits. | 16Awake, north wind, and come, south wind. Make my garden breathe out, let its fragrance flow. Let my beloved come into his garden, and let him eat its choicest fruits. |
