And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. | 1And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual men, but as to men of flesh, as to infants in Christ. |
I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able. | 2I gave you milk to drink, not solid food; for you were not yet able to receive it. Indeed, even now you are not yet able, |
For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men? | 3for you are still fleshly. For since there is jealousy and strife among you, are you not fleshly, and are you not walking like mere men? |
For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal? | 4For when one says, "I am of Paul," and another, "I am of Apollos," are you not mere men? |
Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to every man? | 5What then is Apollos? And what is Paul? Servants through whom you believed, even as the Lord gave opportunity to each one. |
I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. | 6I planted, Apollos watered, but God was causing the growth. |
So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase. | 7So then neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but God who causes the growth. |
Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour. | 8Now he who plants and he who waters are one; but each will receive his own reward according to his own labor. |
For we are labourers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building. | 9For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, God's building. |
According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon. | 10According to the grace of God which was given to me, like a wise master builder I laid a foundation, and another is building on it. But each man must be careful how he builds on it. |
For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. | 11For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. |
Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; | 12Now if any man builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, |
Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. | 13each man's work will become evident; for the day will show it because it is to be revealed with fire, and the fire itself will test the quality of each man's work. |
If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. | 14If any man's work which he has built on it remains, he will receive a reward. |
If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire. | 15If any man's work is burned up, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire. |
Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? | 16Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? |
If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are. | 17If any man destroys the temple of God, God will destroy him, for the temple of God is holy, and that is what you are. |
Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise. | 18Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you thinks that he is wise in this age, he must become foolish, so that he may become wise. |
For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness. | 19For the wisdom of this world is foolishness before God. For it is written, "He is THE ONE WHO CATCHES THE WISE IN THEIR CRAFTINESS"; |
And again, The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain. | 20and again, "THE LORD KNOWS THE REASONINGS of the wise, THAT THEY ARE USELESS." |
Therefore let no man glory in men. For all things are yours; | 21So then let no one boast in men. For all things belong to you, |
Whether Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come; all are yours; | 22whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or things present or things to come; all things belong to you, |
And ye are Christ's; and Christ is God's. | 23and you belong to Christ; and Christ belongs to God. |
