 | 1Praise ye the LORD. Praise the LORD, O my soul. | 1Praise the LORD! Praise the LORD, O my soul! |
| 2While I live will I praise the LORD: I will sing praises unto my God while I have any being. | 2I will praise the LORD as long as I live! I will sing praises to my God as long as I exist! |
| 3Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help. | 3Do not trust in princes, or in human beings, who cannot deliver! |
| 4His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish. | 4Their life's breath departs, they return to the ground; on that day their plans die. |
| 5Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God: | 5How blessed is the one whose helper is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD his God, |
| 6Which made heaven, and earth, the sea, and all that therein is: which keepeth truth for ever: | 6the one who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, who remains forever faithful, |
| 7Which executeth judgment for the oppressed: which giveth food to the hungry. The LORD looseth the prisoners: | 7vindicates the oppressed, and gives food to the hungry. The LORD releases the imprisoned. |
| 8The LORD openeth the eyes of the blind: the LORD raiseth them that are bowed down: the LORD loveth the righteous: | 8The LORD gives sight to the blind. The LORD lifts up all who are bent over. The LORD loves the godly. |
| 9The LORD preserveth the strangers; he relieveth the fatherless and widow: but the way of the wicked he turneth upside down. | 9The LORD protects those residing outside their native land; he lifts up the fatherless and the widow, but he opposes the wicked. |
| 10The LORD shall reign for ever, even thy God, O Zion, unto all generations. Praise ye the LORD. | 10The LORD rules forever, your God, O Zion, throughout the generations to come! Praise the LORD! |
