King James Bible | New Living Translation |
A Song of degrees. In my distress I cried unto the LORD, and he heard me. | 1I took my troubles to the LORD; I cried out to him, and he answered my prayer. |
Deliver my soul, O LORD, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue. | 2Rescue me, O LORD, from liars and from all deceitful people. |
What shall be given unto thee? or what shall be done unto thee, thou false tongue? | 3O deceptive tongue, what will God do to you? How will he increase your punishment? |
Sharp arrows of the mighty, with coals of juniper. | 4You will be pierced with sharp arrows and burned with glowing coals. |
Woe is me, that I sojourn in Mesech, that I dwell in the tents of Kedar! | 5How I suffer in far-off Meshech. It pains me to live in distant Kedar. |
My soul hath long dwelt with him that hateth peace. | 6I am tired of living among people who hate peace. |
I am for peace: but when I speak, they are for war. | 7I search for peace; but when I speak of peace, they want war! |
