King James Bible | New Living Translation |
To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. The king shall joy in thy strength, O LORD; and in thy salvation how greatly shall he rejoice! | 1How the king rejoices in your strength, O LORD! He shouts with joy because you give him victory. |
Thou hast given him his heart's desire, and hast not withholden the request of his lips. Selah. | 2For you have given him his heart’s desire; you have withheld nothing he requested. Interlude |
For thou preventest him with the blessings of goodness: thou settest a crown of pure gold on his head. | 3You welcomed him back with success and prosperity. You placed a crown of finest gold on his head. |
He asked life of thee, and thou gavest it him, even length of days for ever and ever. | 4He asked you to preserve his life, and you granted his request. The days of his life stretch on forever. |
His glory is great in thy salvation: honour and majesty hast thou laid upon him. | 5Your victory brings him great honor, and you have clothed him with splendor and majesty. |
For thou hast made him most blessed for ever: thou hast made him exceeding glad with thy countenance. | 6You have endowed him with eternal blessings and given him the joy of your presence. |
For the king trusteth in the LORD, and through the mercy of the most High he shall not be moved. | 7For the king trusts in the LORD. The unfailing love of the Most High will keep him from stumbling. |
Thine hand shall find out all thine enemies: thy right hand shall find out those that hate thee. | 8You will capture all your enemies. Your strong right hand will seize all who hate you. |
Thou shalt make them as a fiery oven in the time of thine anger: the LORD shall swallow them up in his wrath, and the fire shall devour them. | 9You will throw them in a flaming furnace when you appear. The LORD will consume them in his anger; fire will devour them. |
Their fruit shalt thou destroy from the earth, and their seed from among the children of men. | 10You will wipe their children from the face of the earth; they will never have descendants. |
For they intended evil against thee: they imagined a mischievous device, which they are not able to perform. | 11Although they plot against you, their evil schemes will never succeed. |
Therefore shalt thou make them turn their back, when thou shalt make ready thine arrows upon thy strings against the face of them. | 12For they will turn and run when they see your arrows aimed at them. |
Be thou exalted, LORD, in thine own strength: so will we sing and praise thy power. | 13Rise up, O LORD, in all your power. With music and singing we celebrate your mighty acts. |
