1A Song of Ascents. To You I lift up my eyes, O You who are enthroned in the heavens! | 1I lift my eyes to you, the one enthroned in heaven. |
2Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master, As the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress, So our eyes look to the LORD our God, Until He is gracious to us. | 2Like a servant's eyes on his master's hand, like a servant girl's eyes on her mistress's hand, so our eyes are on the LORD our God until he shows us favor. |
3Be gracious to us, O LORD, be gracious to us, For we are greatly filled with contempt. | 3Show us favor, LORD, show us favor, for we've had more than enough contempt. |
4Our soul is greatly filled With the scoffing of those who are at ease, And with the contempt of the proud. | 4We've had more than enough scorn from the arrogant and contempt from the proud. |
