New American Standard Bible 1995 | New Living Translation |
A Song of Ascents. To You I lift up my eyes, O You who are enthroned in the heavens! | 1I lift my eyes to you, O God, enthroned in heaven. |
Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master, As the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress, So our eyes look to the LORD our God, Until He is gracious to us. | 2We keep looking to the LORD our God for his mercy, just as servants keep their eyes on their master, as a slave girl watches her mistress for the slightest signal. |
Be gracious to us, O LORD, be gracious to us, For we are greatly filled with contempt. | 3Have mercy on us, LORD, have mercy, for we have had our fill of contempt. |
Our soul is greatly filled With the scoffing of those who are at ease, And with the contempt of the proud. | 4We have had more than our fill of the scoffing of the proud and the contempt of the arrogant. |
