New American Standard Bible 1995 | English Standard Version |
And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual men, but as to men of flesh, as to infants in Christ. | 1But I, brothers, could not address you as spiritual people, but as people of the flesh, as infants in Christ. |
I gave you milk to drink, not solid food; for you were not yet able to receive it. Indeed, even now you are not yet able, | 2I fed you with milk, not solid food, for you were not ready for it. And even now you are not yet ready, |
for you are still fleshly. For since there is jealousy and strife among you, are you not fleshly, and are you not walking like mere men? | 3for you are still of the flesh. For while there is jealousy and strife among you, are you not of the flesh and behaving only in a human way? |
For when one says, "I am of Paul," and another, "I am of Apollos," are you not mere men? | 4For when one says, “I follow Paul,” and another, “I follow Apollos,” are you not being merely human? |
What then is Apollos? And what is Paul? Servants through whom you believed, even as the Lord gave opportunity to each one. | 5What then is Apollos? What is Paul? Servants through whom you believed, as the Lord assigned to each. |
I planted, Apollos watered, but God was causing the growth. | 6I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. |
So then neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but God who causes the growth. | 7So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth. |
Now he who plants and he who waters are one; but each will receive his own reward according to his own labor. | 8He who plants and he who waters are one, and each will receive his wages according to his labor. |
For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, God's building. | 9For we are God’s fellow workers. You are God’s field, God’s building. |
According to the grace of God which was given to me, like a wise master builder I laid a foundation, and another is building on it. But each man must be careful how he builds on it. | 10According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building upon it. Let each one take care how he builds upon it. |
For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. | 11For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. |
Now if any man builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, | 12Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw— |
each man's work will become evident; for the day will show it because it is to be revealed with fire, and the fire itself will test the quality of each man's work. | 13each one’s work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. |
If any man's work which he has built on it remains, he will receive a reward. | 14If the work that anyone has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. |
If any man's work is burned up, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire. | 15If anyone’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire. |
Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? | 16Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you? |
If any man destroys the temple of God, God will destroy him, for the temple of God is holy, and that is what you are. | 17If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him. For God’s temple is holy, and you are that temple. |
Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you thinks that he is wise in this age, he must become foolish, so that he may become wise. | 18Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you thinks that he is wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise. |
For the wisdom of this world is foolishness before God. For it is written, "He is THE ONE WHO CATCHES THE WISE IN THEIR CRAFTINESS"; | 19For the wisdom of this world is folly with God. For it is written, “He catches the wise in their craftiness,” |
and again, "THE LORD KNOWS THE REASONINGS of the wise, THAT THEY ARE USELESS." | 20and again, “The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile.” |
So then let no one boast in men. For all things belong to you, | 21So let no one boast in men. For all things are yours, |
whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or things present or things to come; all things belong to you, | 22whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future—all are yours, |
and you belong to Christ; and Christ belongs to God. | 23and you are Christ’s, and Christ is God’s. |
